Default Lost my baby- so sad

I went in for my 1st u/s today. RE found an empty sac. He thinks it died about 2 wks ago. I am/was 7wks now. I haven't had cramps or bleeding or anything. RE thinks reason I haven't bled is due to progesterone supp. I got pg on my own, with nothing. I haven't had a pd since March. RE thinks my lining was messed up and the baby didn't implant properly. I am having a d&c on Wednesday. I am so sad. DH and I have been crying and are crushed. Just glad we have 2 healthy boys. But it still hurts. Does anyone know anything about d&c? Thanks.

Hi Rachelle

I'm so sorry for your loss (((hugs))). You're in my thoughts and prayers. I haven't had a D & C, but I'm sure one of the other girls will be able to answer your question. Take care of yourself.

If you don't know when you conceived how do you know how far along you are? Could your RE be wrong on the dates & you could be earlier than you thought?

I'm not trying to get your hopes up or anything but I would wait a week & go back for another u/s to see if there is anything there?

I am so sorry you have to go through all of this. I've had a d&c before, but not for a miscarriage. I had one of my ovaries removed and since I had not gotten my period in over a year, they decided to clean out my uterus via d&c. Basically it's done as a surgical procedure. They knock you out and they do the rest. You wake up and it's over. They will most likely send the tissue to pathology to rule out any abnormalities with your uterine lining. For me, they found the early stages of hyperplasia (sp?)

There are some women who prefer to have a d&c when it comes to a miscarriage. I think it would be easier emotionally. Then there are other women who prefer to miscarry naturally....although I've read it is a far more emotional and somewhat painful experience. For me, it was extremely hard after I lost my baby to deal with the bleeding....it was just a constant reminder of what I lost.

I hope this helps...I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Diana, I'm sure you're right, although I think any loss is emotional whether it happens naturally, or by D & C.

I've had 2 natural miscarriages, and in my experience its worse the further along you are (which is logical) - this one at 5 weeks 2 days is a breeze compared to the last one at 8 weeks (considerably more pain and I bled for longer). I have read that you are benched for longer after a D & C, so if the goal is to get back to ttc asap natural is good. In saying that there's no way I would wait around for weeks for something to happen - if this one had not started on it own I was going to request a D & C this week because I thought it would be too hard on me emotionally to wait. The bleeding is a constant reminder, but many people have bleeding after a D & C too, and to be honest, I'm thinking about it anyway.

Rachelle, I'm not sure if this is of any help to you, but I guess any info is useful in some way. More (((hugs))).

hi hun the same thing happened to me.i finally opted for d&c at ten weeks as i had no bleeding etc by that point, it was the hardest descion of my life. the procedure itself isnt too bad, i was asleep for roughly half an hour then stayed in bed for about 2 hrs then got up and went home.i was in a little pain which i would describe as really bad period pains which isnt to bad considering id been through an operatation.afterwards it was just emotional pain, there are constant reminders everywere, even just going shopping can be hard but im beginning to have good and bad days
if u need any advice feel free to pm me
good luck hun

I have had both natural *with my twins* and a d&c after the single one. I myself prefer the d&c has it helped me start healing faster, instead ofdragging it out. When I lost my twins I lost one and then a few weeks later lost the other one. That was the longest month or so of my life. I know it is not easy and I hope that you can start to heal and make sure to hug your children. The d&c wasn 't bad, you are asleep and when you wake up *atleast for me* I had minimal bleeding and I was able to go home and relax at home. PM Me if you need to talk hun and try to take care of yourself

About the D&C versus "natural" m/c. I think I prefer the "natural" m/c. When I had my D&C I bled for months (granted, I was pg w/ quads but still, it was months). When I quit bleeding, I spotted. Since my D&C AF has never been the same. Normally some women would be ecstatic when AF was lighter & shorter but I knew that being lighter & shorter was bad for me, my lining has never been the same so it's possible that it affected the rest of my pregnancies. I don't think it was anything to do w/ the dr, I think it was just the way my body reacted to the D&C.
