Default Lost Weight - Cholesterol Up

I was diagnosed a year ago with PCOS. I'm 45 now, but I've been IR, had excess hair and central obesity all my adult life life, and been on BP med since I was 36. No one ever put the symptoms together until my dermatologist suggested it! After a year of taking Met 1500mg, exercising and losing about 25 pounds, I had my bloodwork again. My cholesterol was up from around 218 to 236. Life just isn't fair is it? My doctor was adamant that I needed to start a cholesterol med and gave me Crestor. The LPN who talked to me about it, said the high BP, IR & high cholesterol are a troubling pattern. If she only knew how much I've read on syndrome X.

So far no problems with the Crestor, except a very weird side effect. I started taking it during my period, and I started getting these rubbery thick clots the next day. The clots continued appearing on again off again to make my period 9 or 10 days long.

I'm guessing my cholesterol went up because I'm trying so hard to eat more protein and less carbs. I've always been a carb-a-holic, but I've realized that too many carbs just make my glucose drop out a few hours after eating. I wish I just didn't require food at all. It's so hard to find low sodium, low carb, low fat things that are high in protein!

About a year ago I had my cholesterol checked. My total cholesterol was in the 300's and my triglicyrides(SP?) were 765!!!!! My doc was flabergasted. He put me on lipitor and told me to come back in a month. Apperntly I should be the poster girl for lipitor because my triglicyrides went down 55%, Suposedly unheard of. My triglicyrides are still to high and also my cholesterol but my endo doesn't want me on the lipitor while TTC. So I recently went off of it. But it sure did help. Congrats on the weight loss. I always said if I just had someone to cook for me (wink) I could lose weight.

My cholesterol went up to high with weight loss, too. My doctor didn't recommend any treatment for some reason. I don't really eat much cholesterol, but my family has a history of the problem.

Hi I recently had my cholesterol checked as it had been about 6 months. My triglycerides and my total cholesterol were up. I asked two doctors (IM & Cardio) why this was the case since I'd lost weight and was eating the same diet, and taking the same supps and meds. They both told me that triglycerides can fluctuate wildly depending on what you had eaten the day or week before your test. I don't think I ate anything bad. I had, however, not regularly exercised for a month due to an injury and had just recently started back up. So who knows! Maybe they are right and in my sleep I went to the freezer and pulled out the ice cream and chased it with a cookie. It's frustrating. I eat tons of fiber every day (30-40 grams) and the levels go up. Go figure.

I am with rfordin505 cause I had high Chorlestoral too until I started taking Lipitor everyday and then my levels dropped down dramatically. Maybe you should ask your doctor to switch you to Lipitor if you are getting side effects cause I didn't get any side effects when I started taking Lipitor but I do know that everyone's body is different when it coems to handling different kinds of meds.
