I've got one for you. Some doctors see that your blood sugar is within normal range, and your hem a1/c comes back normal so they take you off the medicine and tell you that you are no longer diabetic. This happened to a friend of mine's mother and now she is legally blind and just under went heart surgery this past Fall. Why, you ask? Because once you are diabetic, you are diabetic.
You got where you are through diet and exercise and medication. That doesn't mean you stop all of it now that you are at your goal. You have to maintain this for the rest of your life.
My diabetes is under control and my dr told me it was "as if I were normal", but he did not say I was no longer diabetic and take away my medication. He praised me for having it under control now because of all the problems that not having in control can lead to in the future.
This topic was good to bring up because I think there are a lot of regular doctors who really are ignorant of diabetes care.
