Question Lots of questions!!!

DH and I aren't looking into adoption just yet but it's a possibility for the future and I have a few questions.

DH is in the military, we're stationed up in ND-hopefully not forever, lol. If we would adopt a child up here do we have to stay in the state for so many years afterward for any home studies or anything? Also, with his job (although he will hopefully be doing something different soon) he is home 5 nights, gone 3 nights, on a constant rotation. He's not far away, no more than an hour and a half, guarding missile sites-but I didn't know if that would be a negative checkmark against us.

Also, from what I've read both people need to be at least 25. Can you start the process, such as the home study when one is only 24?

Thank you! Good luck to everyone!

Welcome Danielle! I don't know much about domestic adoption but if you have any questions about international I know a lot about Russia. I know lots of families in the military adopt so I can't imagine it would be too big a problem, but I don't know policies on where you live, age, etc. Good luck!

Here are 2 links that I hope will give you some info on military adoptions. If you go to Google you will also find some other links.

http://www.militaryadoption.com/
http://www.adopting.org/military.html

I don't know much about domestic adoption either. We are pursuing an adoption from China.

My DH is on active duty for the Army National Guard and we will not be transferred out of state. One of his first questions to our adoption agency is whether or not being in the US Army has a negative affect on being chosen as an adoptive family.

Our agency gave us an emphatic NO! that it would not affect us negatively. In fact, being in the military is often looked upon as a plus since you generally have job security and because of the high regard our military personnel have overseas.

So, that's what I know about being a military family adopting internationally. I hope it gives you some perspective.

Best of luck to you!! Happy researching and I hope you find the answers you are looking for!!
