Talking Lots of questions

Hi

In the last week I have gotten diagnosed with hypertension,Insulin Resistance, and hypothyroidism.

I have been diagnosed with PCOS in October 2000. My previous MD did not run any tests on me for these things (even though I have had Acanthosis Nigricans for years). I changed to a new MD and he seems very knowledgable and wants to run tests on me to help me with this.

He put me on Aldomet,Synthroid, and Glucophage. He stated I will probably have my period on glucophage. Does this mean I wont have to take Clomid possibly? I have had a Clomid prescription for a month and havent taken it due to my blood pressure. How soon should I see AF back? Is insulin resistance the same thing as Diabetes?

Lots of cysters have had great success on glucaphage and getting pregnant and having a period on a regular basis. All bodies are different so it is hard to say if it will work for you. From my experience I was one month away from going on clomid and only taking 1500mg of glucaphageXR when I got pregnant. I had normal cycles for three months straight which for me was a huge improvement.

For your IR questions: No it does not mean that you have diabetes (you are at a higher risk of developing it). IR is when your pancreas produces massive amounts of insulin because your body doesn't use insulin properly. You will have a better success of controlling it with the glucaphage but your rate will be even higher w/ a low carb diabetic diet and excersize plus it may increase your chance of getting pregnant on the low carb diet as well.

I did the diet, walked 2+ miles a day and lost 50+lbs in over a period of a year. Then, I was able to get pregnant.

Sorry of such a long reply Hope this answers your questions.

Thank you so much for your help

My MD put me on a 1500 cal low carb diabetic diet and I started exercising by walking today.

I always kind of suspected this because I use to have normal periods up to 4 years ago and I also had a miscarriage 5 years ago. I wasn't currently trying to have a baby then. I was on BCP and still got pregnant so I assumed I would not have a problem having children in the future however with this DX 3 years ago I found out differently.I became obese about 6 months before my diagnosis and had always been thin before so I am hoping this is what is holding me back. Thanks again
