Default Low blood pressure?

Hello all!

Does anyone have low blood pressure? Last time I got mine checked it was 97/72. The ARNP asked if it was always this low, and when I told her yes, she just kinda said "humph." No explanation, which kinda freaked me out. The only time it has been high was after I RAN to an appointment because I was late. Then it was only 130 over something.

I am a little nervous about it, and the docs and nurses kinda blow it off when I ask about it. maybe nothing, but I thought I would ask.

Thanks!

karen

I've had my blood pressure read as low as 90/67. It only gets that low when I don't eat. And if I start to shake from not eating, I know my blood pressure will be like that. I get something to eat and it levels out. But I still have relativly low blood pressure. It's never worried me, except for when it drops down to the 60's. Flat out ask your doctor what is going on if it is really bothering you and don't let them brush you off. You have a right to know what is going on with your body. Lots of luck.

My blood pressure is normally around those numbers. I'm not sure if that is good, but the doctor tells me that he would rather I take after my Dad (who does have trouble with low-pressure) than my Mom and Grandma and Great-Grandma who all have had serious trouble with high blood pressure. It's the same with me, I think the highest my top number has been is in the 130's.
Sorry, I can't give you much more info, except that you are not the only one!

I think your bp is low, but you shouldn't be concerned about it. I would be concerned if the two numbers were closer together like 70/67 but 97 is a good number for the systolic. If the average is 110 for non-hypertensive people, you are just at the low end of normal. The systolic (upper number) is the pressure exerted during contraction of the heart, the diastolic is the pressure of the heart at rest. If the pressures are equal, something is amiss. But, 97 just means your heart is non-stressed. I'm generally in the same range as you and have been since my teenage years.
