Default low blood sugar

Hi everyone. This past week I have started having low blood sugar episodes. I am trying to figure out what is going on. So any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have been on Glucophage XR 1500mg and Avandia 8mg for about 8 months. My endocrinologist took me off the Avandia about 3 weeks ago. I am currently working out with a trainer 3 days per week and expending a lot of energy during my workouts. I've been doin this about 7 weeks. I am following a low/moderate carb diet with no sugar or simple carbs. I have lost about 14 pounds in the last 3 months.

I am wondering what kind of effect the exercise and weight loss will have on my insulin levels and blood sugar levels. I also am exhibiting more oily skin, break outs, and facial hair growth along with this. Any ideas of what might me going on????

Thanks.

Hi coop!

Merry Christmas! How long are you working out? Strenuous excercise for a long length of time along with metformin can cause hypoglycemia. I don't know about the oily skin, acne, & excess facial hair. maybe strenuous excercise increases testosterone?

Good Luck & God Bless!!!

I have awful problems with low sugar. I really try to follow the IR diet. I know I get really bad if I dont eat before I have exercised. I have almost passed out working out before because my sugar dropped. I know I keep a can of peanuts in my car, so on my way to the club I usually eat a couple and when I get out. Do you eat every 2-3 hours? That works best for me. That is why I like the IR diet, but I still get episodes of my sugar getting really low.

I get bouts of low blood sugar about every 3 hours doing the day. I get up at 10 am, and eat some cereal or something and take my Met, and then by 1 pm I'm feeling weird and shaky. I usually eat a little candy or some chips and I feel better.

I know that when I took glucophage xr I had really bad low blood sugar episodes without working out. Now I am taking natural supplements and they dont affect me as badly. I would talk with your dr about the low blood sugar episodes and maybe have an apple or pear to eat after you work out to get you sugar up til you get home.
