My Mood: Points: 1,732.83 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,732.83 | Low blood sugar on met? Hello everyone!
I have been on 2000 mg. met for a little over a year. I have finally gotten serious about diet and excercise, and re-joined Weight Watchers three weeks ago. I've lost about 8-9 lbs so far.
Here's the problem - over the last week I've had a couple of episodes that I think were caused by low blood sugar - feeling shakey, irritable, dizzy. It's happened to me before I started eating better, but only if I waited too long to eat after taking my met. Now I'm eating pretty often, and pretty well!
I've read that met rarely causes low blood sugar, but I really think it's a part of what's going on with me. Does anyone else deal with this, and does anyone have suggestions for me?
Thanks in advance! You are all terrific!

My Mood: Points: 5,569.88 Bank: 9,460.87 Total Points: 15,030.75 | It happens to me quite often if I don't eat for a few hours. I try to keep protein bars in my purse, so I always have something if I feel I need it. I've had this before I even started met, though. Just remember not to go with too much sugar - go with more protein/fiber/un-processed carbs. Drinking orange juice can help, too!
If it happens when you've just eaten or feel you are eating often enough, I suggest talking with your doctor about it because it may not be a blood sugar issue.

When you have these *low blood sugar* episodes, do you feel totally exhausted after you recover? I think I've been having these too. But, even when I eat something and the dizziness/irritibility goes away, I am totally wiped out for the rest of the day.
Does that happen to you?
Amanda

My Mood: Points: 1,732.83 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,732.83 | Fortunately I don't feel too badly after these episodes are over. Once I eat something, I generally feel pretty good, and I don't feel tired afterward. I used to be exhausted all the time, but since I've been on Met and gotten my thyroid under control, I have far less trouble with exhaustion than I used to.
I'm sorry that you're feeling that way, Amanda! Hopefully some more Cysters will chime in here with suggestions for both of us!
Lailaria, thanks for the tip about protein bars! I think these episodes are absolutely worse when I don't have enough protein, especially now that I'm eating fewer calories overall. I think the less processed the food, the better!
