Ok i experienced a weird one the other day. I was sitting at home and started feeling really tired, yawning and finding it hard to keep my eyes open. I felt like that for about 30 minutes, what was weird was that it came on suddenly and when i had gotten up I felt great...this was about 3 hours after waking up. Then i started to feel sick to my stomach, like i had to go to the bathroom, and more and more tired...then i started to get shaky..the first thing i thought was 'blood sugar' so i tested it, although it hadn't been 2 hours from when i had eaten, my sugar was 7.7 (140). I thought ok, thats not it. But within 5 minutes i felt even worse. So i checked again..this time 6.1 (110). Ok still not low at all but dropping quick, so i decided to eat my snack, even though it was early. So i did, and within 10 minutes i felt fine. I also went to the bathroom and did have to go....so whether or not that was related i don;t know. Could i have gotten a reaction similar to low blood sugar because it was dropping too fast? Or is there something else out there that gives you similar symptoms? Any wisdom on this one???

When my sugar level is dropping I feel just like you explained. I start feeling weak in the knee and like I have to sit down or I will pass out. Especially when it drops fast. I hope you feel better...

Well i experienced it again today, but not to the same degree...and again i tested myself and i was fine, tested again in 10 minutes..still fine but 1 full point lower. Definately just dropping too fast i am thinking. Oh well, at least its better than finding out when you are already really low...thats scary.

Well, 140 isn't low...it is a little high. Normal range is around 100. About a week ago, I had eaten two small pieces of pizza and about 2 hours later I got real real tired and couldn't keep my eyes opened. I tested my blood sugar and it was 180. I tested it an hour after that and it was still 145. I just couldn't keep my eyes opened. I would tell your doctor. I hope you feel better soon.

I know that 140 is 'a little high' ...it hadn't been two hours after eating yet...but it went from 140 to 110 in 5 minutes...still not low..but a pretty fast drop.

Yes, that is a very fast drop...that is probably why you were feeling that way...I would definately let your doctor know...He may need to adjust your medications...Good luck and I hope you feel better....Sometimes I feel that way when it was real high and then starts dropping...I hate that feeling...

It was after breakfast but before my morning snack. I believe i had 2 pieces of whole wheat toast, 2 cups of milk, & a banana. Which is what i always have for breakfast, sometimes i have an egg or some bacon. And i took the same amount of insulin that i always took...being pregnant they have me on a very strict regimen. Thats what i found so weird...everything was the same as it always was....I talked to my doctors (2 here, and the diabetes specialist in Edmonton) say i have 'stellar' control of my sugars. And it is just one of those things that happen, thats why you have to be aware of what the symptoms are.

Anyway, what you described for breakfast isn't the best thing to have.
Let me tell you why, whole wheat toast, milk and banana......is not a balanced breakfast and you may feel like your blood sugar is taking you on a rollercoaster at times, am I right ?
Bananas are pretty high on the glycemic index, the toast would of been fine, (depending what brand your eating) but it's a carb and you're not having any protein at all !
Don't feel that breakfast foods should only be milk and toast and fruit.....you can even eat chicken for breakfast in the morning ! It may sound corny to you but trust me on that one !!
Try this, a couple eggs, boiled or fried, whatever, throw them on the toast and have some veggies, say asparagus on the side as well.
Top with some EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) and you will have better blood sugar control.
Absolutely ALWAYS incude PROTEIN with every meal, again this is crucial for obtaining better blood sugar control.
Coree, I would check with your doctors and have them send you to a dietician. I went to diabetic teaching classes when I was dx as type 2 last year and it was the best thing I've ever done. I am on a very strict diet also, 1200 calories a day, and it is very difficult. This is my daily diet. I eat a low fat yogurt and a banana for breakfast. The fat in the yogurt levels out the carbs. For lunch, I eat 1 oz of meat, lowfat/low carb bread 2 slices, lowfat miracle whip, a piece of fruit, carrots and low fat ranch dip, for supper I eat three oz of meat, veggie, fruit, then snack I eat 3 cups of microwave popcorn or sugarfree angelfood cake and fruit with fat free whipped topping. The fat isn't a good thing if over done, but if you eat a little fat with each meal, it will help to keep your sugar level more steady. The dietician said not to eat more than 4 oz of meat a day because it messes with the kidneys. I hope this helps you, but please please check with your doctor. You can up this for a 1400 calorie diet and that is what my dietician wanted me to be on, but I didn't want to be on it because I was afraid I wouldn't lose any weight. Please check with your doctor and have them send you to a dietician, I promise it will really help you...Good luck...

Flyfisher, how tall are you and roughly how much do you weigh ?
I don't know who told you that the fat in yogurt levels out your carbs ?? There isn't any fat in yogurt, more sugar I'd say.
You should also try to have some protein for breakfast, and going too low with the calories could be counterproductive.
Remember, not ALL dieticians are correct, finding one who promotes good healthy eating habits, simple clean foods and not counting calories would probably be a wiser choice.
But you are correct in that checking with a doctor or an experienced dietician/nutritionist is a good idea.
Ok, I have seen a diabetic specialist, who i am in contact with weekly, i also have seen a dietician who specializes in diabetes in pregnancy..who is at the same office as my specialist..who i am also in contact with every second week. I am not someone who ever ate breakfast before, so having to do it daily has been difficult for me..i have been told my breakfasts are fine, as long as i am eating something, and like i said i do sometimes have an egg or bacon, and sometimes peanut butter. But being pregnant..some days just keeping breakfast down can be a chore for me...and what i have been eating works 99% of the time for me. But thank you for the advice.
