Default Low Carb Diets

Hi, as a thin cyster myself, how can I prevent losing weight when I want to try to low carb, as I have read it is the best thing you can do if you have pcos. Any suggestions on how I can low carb without losing weight? Please advise.

Thank you!

Actually, when I started moderate carbing, doing a plan given to me by a dietician, my weight leveled off at my healthy weight. I didn't lose.

The problem with very low carb diets is that there is so little variety in your food that you are actually losing, becsuae in effect you are on a calorie restrictive diet.

Try to meet with a dietician once, get a plan and see how you can live with. My plan got me ovulating again, and my hormone levels back to normal. So, there is hope in food :-).

If you don't want to lose weight but you want to manage your carbs you might want to try the IR diet.

It does seem to be the most popular diet for PCOS sufferers at the moment and although there are quite a few who have lost weight with it I can see that it could be used as a "maintenance" diet.

If you go over to the Diet and Exercise forum and look at KYBluegrass Before and After Pics and also the Weight Loss Success Stories you will lots of info on the IR diet and KY even typed out the basic principles of the diet and what she eats in a day.

It should be quite easy to modify it so that if you did lose any weight you can just increase your portions. It allows you to eat wholegrains; wholewheat pasta; fruit etc. provided you "balance" it with protein. So however many grams of carbs you were having I think it works out that you should eat it with the half that amount of protein. This keeps your blood sugar stable and stops the insulin spikes which stops your testosterone levels rising.

Sorry, I am not very good at the science thing, lol! as I don't follow the diet myself; I cannot lose weight if I eat that way. But you might want to go and take a look?

Also at the top of the forum are a couple of stickys by Kat which explain the basic principles of insuline resistance and also the way of eating that best suits us PCOS girls. (protein, wholegrains etc)
