Default Low carb and a harry girl

Does low carb dieting help with the hair growth?
I heard it did; but never asked anyone.
I have hair on my face, stomach, neck. It is really gross; but I have learned to live with it.
I am TTCing and I think Humm, I dont see any PG women with harry bellies..
I wonder if the hair is a Bad Sign...

Well... simple carbs mess with your insulin levels and insulin somehow messes with your testosterone levels. It's like eating sugar. It absorbs too quickly into your blood stream. ...And a lot of women with PCOS have insulin resistance. Do a search for insulin resistance and PCOS.

And by the way... that cake on your icon looks sooo good. Too bad i've given up sugar.

Here's how I understand it:

A diet high in simple carbs increases the sugar in your blood, makin git spike.
Those of us with IR can't really handle that, and it gets stored as fat. Androgens (which cause things like the hairgrowth) is stored in fat tissues.
The more fat tissue, the higher androgen levels, the more hair.
Low carb will aid you in balancing your insulin levels, allowing your body to process what you give it better, help you lose weight, break up the fatty cells, releasing the androgens and decreasing them. You have less of the hormonal imbalance, which makes treatments (like laser) more permenant than they would be otherwise, but some women also see a decrease in the amount of hair growth they see.

This article sort of says the same thing, but in a more eloquent fashion: http://sheknows.com/about/look/3038.htm

I'm thin as well but I do have blood sugar problems. There's a connection other than that but a alot of women do experience a decrease in hair growth after losing weight.

"High insulin levels produce testosterone by stimulating ovarian androgen production and by reducing serum sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG). This can heighten PCOS symptoms"

Check that page out. There's some good info on there. Hope it helps. : D

YES LOW CARB DOES HELP WITH HAIR GROWTH

I have been in a low carb diet (south beach diet) since april... and about since october i had notice a major difference in the growth of the hair on my face! (but i also notice the difference right away when i started the diet, but it got better in oct) its really incredible! in one week i would have soo much hair (i wax) and now in a week i have alittle bit... i am not saying its gone.. cause its not but the growth is INCREDIBLY slow.... but i cant say the same for my body hair..its the same... but regardless.. this has made me feel soo much better... even my self esteem is very high... and i did some blood work last week and i am gonna see my doctor next monday.. to see if my hormones are balanced so i can get laser done....
