Default low carb and type 2 diabetes ?

I was recently daignosed with type II diabetes. I have had PCOS for years. I am about 70 lbs overweight. I have made some changes to what I eat and have lost a few pounds but it is a slow and tough struggle.

I am curious if any of you who have Type II diabetes following a low carb plan and if you find it helpful for weight loss as well as for keeping your sugar low.

Thanks,

Nancy

Wink I am type two, and follow a LOW (but not atkins) carb diet

I cut down on the white... flour, rice, potatoes, bread, all that stuff. If it's white it's out. I eat bread, but it's like wheat, and it's the low carb kind. I have lost 30+ pounds since august 5th when I was diagnosed. I find things like fruit to my tasting when I need a snack. Small servings too. I journal everything I eat... and am honest. It keeps me aware of how much I'm eating too. I rarely eat in front of the computer. I loose control. Exercise EXERCISE! EXERCISE! That's the most important thing. I have worked my lifestyle from a sedentary life, to I walk close to 3 miles almost daily, or on rainy days I do the stationary bike (equal distance). A couple days a week I also do some aerobic dance. All this with a horribly bad back. I have had a fusion on one level, and have four more herniations. I also suffer from chronic pain that makes it all difficult, but I manage to have low a1c's and my daily sugars are reasonable. So it's worth it.

Good luck, and stay in touch

Thanks TeriLynn. I have tried to cut out most "white" foods. I still eat potatoes once in awhile, but bread is always ww or some variety of grains. Rice is brown.

Good for you for making so many positive changes! I am walking, daily for the most part, but I still struggle with being consistent with that.

I know you said that you eat brown rice, but be careful. Don't be fooled. Just because it's brown rice doesn't mean it's "real." You want to look for the long grain rice, the kind that takes 30 minutes or more to cook. The quick cooking stuff is not real and is the stuff that messes with the insulin levels. I am not sure if WW bread is whole wheat. Be careful of that as well. Some breads say wheat, but it is not whole wheat. If you have an open mind, please email me at shortandbubbly@yahoo.com My fiancee's aunt has been helping me with my eating, and I am also IR, I have the dark patches to prove it! lol. But I have been losing weight and I do not feel deprived at all. I am more than happy to help you if I can.
