I am type two, and follow a LOW (but not atkins) carb diet I cut down on the white... flour, rice, potatoes, bread, all that stuff. If it's white it's out. I eat bread, but it's like wheat, and it's the low carb kind. I have lost 30+ pounds since august 5th when I was diagnosed. I find things like fruit to my tasting when I need a snack. Small servings too. I journal everything I eat... and am honest. It keeps me aware of how much I'm eating too. I rarely eat in front of the computer. I loose control. Exercise EXERCISE! EXERCISE! That's the most important thing. I have worked my lifestyle from a sedentary life, to I walk close to 3 miles almost daily, or on rainy days I do the stationary bike (equal distance). A couple days a week I also do some aerobic dance. All this with a horribly bad back. I have had a fusion on one level, and have four more herniations. I also suffer from chronic pain that makes it all difficult, but I manage to have low a1c's and my daily sugars are reasonable. So it's worth it.
Good luck, and stay in touch
