    Default Low GI diet question

Hi, I am new here. Anyone else tried Nancy Dunnes e-book "The Natural Soulution to PCOS and Infertility" I have been on her diet for about a month and a half and I just feel aweful. It is a very strict organic version of a low GI diet. NO sugars, juice, grains, legumes, carbs or preservatives. I haven't yet been diagnosed IR but wanted to try it anyway. I feel so tired, listless and depressed. Anyone else try this diet or feel like this on a low GI diet? I'm wondering if it is the diet or the fact that I am still not preg. that is making me so blah.

Just wanted to let you know that, although I have not tried that specific diet, when I was diagnosed with Celiac (gluten intolerance) I had about a week or more when I had just started the diet and was trying to figure out what to eat. We live in a small town, so I didn't get to a health food store right away to buy some gluten-free breads/carbs. Well...I'm telling you, the whole no carb thing about did me in. I really felt quite awful. No energy, exhausted, walking through the mall with my family feeling like I was just going to collapse. As soon as I started eating some of the gf carbs, my energy level started to get better and I improved quite a bit. So...my personal guess is that, yes...it could be the diet!! Good luck!

    Default I Feel Exhausted Also!!!!!!!!!!

I am following an IR diet also. I just found out I have PCOS about 4 days ago. I started to change my eating habits about 3 days ago. I feel like I have been dragged through the mud. I do not even feel like talking to people around me; in fear of me biting their head off. I believe as with everything that your body needs time to adjust. Right now we are both withdrawing from our past eating experiences.

Mentally I am feeling confused at times. This must be because I am no longer on a sugar high. I feel lucky that I have not had any major cravings. Worst of all Easter is coming up. I have asked everyone around me, not to give me any candy.

It is hard at this point to recommend this diet to you. I have not been on it long enough. I agree that eating WHOLE FOODS is better than PROCESSED FOODS. As for Organic stuff. I prefer food without bugs. There really is no difference except for price. If you want a glass of juice, pour a 1/4 cup a juice to 1 cup of water and enjoy. This way you do not slam your body with tons of fructose. Hope this helps.

I read in the book Infertility Cure that when transitioning to a low carb diet the body needs to adjust to having lower blood sugar, liquid chlorophyll added to your drinking water can help with this! I have been using for two months and it has helped, it also has iron in it for those of us with long AF! HTH

    Hi Genelet,

I bought Nancy Dunnes book and read through it, but it soundes a bit too harsh for me, personally. I just try to cut out the refined carbs and starchy stuff, mostly. I still eat whole grains and fruit. Good luck to you!

I bought Nancy Dunne's e-book also. I have tried to follow a lot of her suggestions, but I just can't follow it completely because I am already underweight and I would lose weight if I followed her diet strictly. Like the previous poster, I just try to eat lots of whole grains and fruits/veggies, organic when possible, etc. I am curious though if someone followed her diet strictly if it really would "cure" the symptoms of PCOS.

    Hi Genelet,

I haven't tried that particular diet, but I did try a different one that said fresh fruit, vegetables and especially legumes were good. I tried Sugarbusters and crossed it with the LOW GI diet for PCOS - but they were pretty similar. Incr protein, eat natural sugars and whole grain breads in moderation. It also promoted organic when possible. I actually felt really good when I was doing it (slacked off this past month) and had more energy. When I was on the diet, I also got my period 2 months in a row in a 33 day cycle - typically range from 60-90 days. I work in healthcare and to me, any diet that tells you to veer away from fruits and veggies can't be a good diet. Hope this helps.
