I've heard to be successful in losing weight with PCOS you should go on a low gi diet. I've bought a SB Diet cookbook and a low gi info book with recipes but I would really like to discover a pre-packaged snack (preferably a breakfast sort) that I don't have to warm up so that I can put it in my purse the night before and eat it on my way to school/work in the mornings. A lot of the recipes I have only take 5 or so minutes, but I'm not always hungry when I first wake up to eat the meal and so when hunger hits me on my way to school or work, I'd like to have a low gi grab-n-go snack ready for me!
I've never heard of a low GI prepackaged snack but I just started on the diet. I found a breakfast cookie recipe though that would work for grab and go if you made them ahead of time. Seems really simple too, when I go back to the grocery store I'm going to get the ingredients for them. Hope this helps out! (sorry about the formatting--it keeps saying I've reached my image limit, but I can't figure out where I've added them)
Low GI Breakfast Cookies
1 c. Special K cereal, 1/3 cup rolled oats (oatmeal), 2 tbsp All Bran cereal, 2 tbsp fructose (or artificial sweetener equivalent of 2 tbsp sugar), 2 tbsp milk powder, 2 tbsp peanut butter, 1 tsp vanilla extract, 1 egg lightly beaten
In medium bowl, combine first 5 ingredients. Blend together remaining ingredients then pour over the dry ingredients. Stir until well blended. Drop mixture by spoonfuls onto a dinner plate covered in wax paper. There should be 8 to 10 "blobs". Use wet fingers to push mixture from spoon and shape. Microwave on High Power (100%) for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes. Allow to cool. Yields 8 to 10 cookies.
I have found a delicious pre-packaged snack. It's Dempster's Healthy Way ProCardio bars. They're like granola bars packed full of fiber (7g to be exact!). I usually buy them at Walmart Superstore, near the bread section. They come in two flavours and are delicious! It's nice to find a snack that you don't have to prepare.

The foods you listed are not low glycemic, Speciak K is really high in carbs, and fructose should not be consumed by those who have blood sugar disorders.
You can read this book from Michel Montignac called, "Eat Yourself Slim."
I do see a nutritionist as well, but most of what I've learned is from this book alone. I've lost 45 pounds so far.
Paola, I apologize. I found the recipe on a website that claimed it had low gi recipes. I have since picked up a copy of The New Glucose Revolution 3rd ed and read up. According to that book, Special K has a GI value of 56, so you're absolutely right. Its not a low GI food. Thanks for the book suggestion, I'll have to look for it at the library. I'm eager to know more. Congrats on your weight loss!
