My Mood: Points: 7,153.29 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 7,153.29 | Low lying placenta Today I went for my anatomy scan, all went well, and we found out the baby is a boy! The one concern I have is that the tech and doctor said that my placenta was a little lower than they like to see, not covering the cervix, but low. The doctor said in time, it usually corrects itself. My question is, has anyone else had this and had it resolve itself? TIA.

My Mood: Points: 14,370.12 Bank: 387,568.81 Total Points: 401,938.93 | At around 18 weeks, I had a complete placenta previa (placenta was centered right over the cervix). The nurse practitioner told me to prepare for a planned c-section, bedrest, blood transfusions, etc. Eeek!
By 26 weeks, though, the placenta had moved completely out of the way of the cervix, and at my last u/s at 33 weeks it was nicely planted on the side and definitely out of the way of the cervix.
When I saw my actual OB about it, she said almost all placentas will move up as the uterus grows, and once they move away from the cervix they very, very rarely move back and become a problem. So hopefully you will have no trouble from yours!
Good luck and congrats on the boy!

My Mood: Points: 6,061.55 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 6,061.55 | I was completely placenta previa as well. It resolved itself as well too. I still ended up having to be monitored frequently and eventually a c-section because she was also completely breech. But yes it's common. It's fine unless you start bleeding. My doc told me the minute I see any type of bleeding to call. I never had any though.
The plus side is that you'll get to see your little one more often because they'll keep doing u/s to monitor it. FYI- mine didn't completely resolve until after the 3rd follow up ultrasound.

However, no more bleeding at all since it has moved away from the cervix.
Did they put you on pelvic rest (no sex, etc)? Sometimes that is a precaution but if yours isn't actually on top of the cervix then it may not be a concern at all.

I had a repeat scan at 21 weeks (for another reason) and it had already moved farther away so they were less concerned. I second the previous poster that mentioned it also means you get to see your baby more often with multiple ultrasounds--hooray!

I wasn't put on pelvic rest but was told if I saw blood to call.
We ended up with more ultrasounds too, which was nice.

Points: 62,753.52 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 62,753.52 | I'm in the middle of this myself. At 14 weeks the placenta was completely covering the cervix. Last week, at 25 weeks, it was 1.7cm from the cervix. My OB said it needed to be at least 2cm away from my cervix before they'd let me deliver vaginally. She said no bedrest or pelvic rest necessary. I'll be rescanned at 29 and 32 weeks to check if it has moved enough.
My OB said she was pretty confident it would move enough that I could deliver vaginally, but no guarantees. I'm praying it moves as I have no interest in a C section!
Good luck!

I was told 90% resolve on their own.
I have a good friend that just had a section because her PP did not resolve. She is a super tiny person and didn't get very big with this PG. Basically the placenta doesn't "move" it's just that the uterus gets bigger and it stretches away from the cervix. So there's 1 good reason to gain some weight!

My Mood: Points: 526.78 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 526.78 | I have low lying placenta that's covering my cervix. I went to the Dr. yesterday & she told me that I need to be very careful & abstain from sexual intercourse until she sees me again in 1 month. I'm 22 weeks now. She said it should resolve itself but that I would risk bleeding or other fluid leakage if I engage in intercourse. Not quite what I wanted to hear b/c now is when I'm most needing it, but whatever.

I think its more of a problem if its completley covering the cervix and as yours is just low i'm sure it will move on its own.
