Default Low progesterone, PCOS and MC

Hi, I am trying to concieve, had strong LH surge on sunday and tried that day to get pg so am crossing my fingers. I actually already have a healthy baby boy but had a mc prior to my first baby. with my 2nd pg my doctor put me on progesterone at about 4 weeks to prevent a mc after testing my levels and finding they were low. It seemed to work in preventing a MC. I was reading that some women actually start progesterone just after trying, knowing that low progesterone levels are an issue for them. Wondering if anyone else has delt with this and what if any recommendations you could give on how soon to start progesterone. I don't want to be parinoid but seems it might make sense to do what i can to prevent an early misscarrage and if i know my progesterone levels are low, why not remedy the situation now. any thoughts are welcome.

FYI that I have PCOS but my symtoms are not sever so I am not on fertility drugs. I am on a low GI diet, lost 25 lbs and cycle length has decreased from about 90 days to around 45. Am trying to get pregnant naturally as I did succesfully twice before.

Each medicated cycle my doctor has had me start the progesterone about 3 days after ovulation. You're not being paranoid, you're being smart. Progesterone is an easy thing to do, why not do it.

Hi.. just to ditto the PP.. my RE put me on progesterone 2 days after ovulation.. If I became pregnant then I would stay on it for the first 12 weeks until the placenta takes over..

Hope you get your BFP this cycle!

maddie b and Brency,

What dosage of progesterone did your RE's prescribe right after ovulation. I just did the opk a couple of hours ago and this is the first time in the last 7 days that it looks positive. I too have low progesterone. I had a day 12 ultrasound to check on my follies and my progesterone was a 0.4.
My Dr gave me a dose of provera just in case I don't ovulate this cycle to bring on AF, but I am thinking since I got the positive opk, should I just start taking the provera to help build up my lining now. but then I probably can't stop taking it because that could result in a mc. Also, I do have NPC that I can begin using. What do you guys think? If this eggie is fertilized in the next couple of days, I don't want to risk the chance of it not being able to implant because of my low progesterone.

Ladies my LP is like 10 days exactly. The last one was 9. Do you think this is going to harm me? I mean do you think it's likely that I'll miscarry with a phase that short?

Ragaye: You actually O 12-48 hours after a positive OPK, so don't start using progesterone until after you are sure that it has happened. Also, progesterone does not rise until after you O, so a P4 level of .4 before ovulation is perfectly normal. As for Provera, most research will tell you it does not cause m/c, although some information refutes this. The main reason not to take it during pg is because of an increase in a certain type of birth defect that impacts on the male genitals.

Thank you Jillconmom,

I am hoping that today was ovulation day. I got my OPK+ yesterday, but dh was dog tired after work and begged me to let him go to bed early. I warned him that we might miss our window. I prayed to God today that we haven't. I am thinking about going to the lab tommorow morning to get my progesterone level checked to see for sure if I ovulated today. Should I wait till Tuesday though? just in case I ovulate late tomorrow sometime? I am worried that if the egg was fertilized and I wait to Tuesday to find out if I ovulated, that my progesterone may be so low that I may lose my little eggie over the weekend. Help? what should I do? This whole TTC thing is driving me crazy!!!!!
