Question Lowering Met dosage AFTER results?

Has anyone tried lowering their Met dosage after getting results? I have been on Met XR 2000 mgs. for about 2 years now and have maintained the weight loss over this time period. I have also continued to get regular (like clockwork) AF now and ovulating etc. I am happy with all of it, but I'm wondering if I could drop down to 1500 mgs. I know 1500 is about the lowest effective dose for us PCOSers. I will see a new specialist end of January and ask her, but curious if anyone has tried dropping the dosage from 2000 to 1500 and still getting the same results. I'm thinking the less medication I take overall it might be better for my health in the long run. Thanks for any/all replies.

I did.

After I hit my goal weight, I started having more frequent blood sugar issues on the drug and so my Dr lowered me to 1000 mg from 1500. I have been on the lowered dose since July 2005 and so far my weight is still fine and my hormones are staying where they should. My Dr says that many people can't lower the dose, but due to my high level of activity (150+ mins of running per week) and my diet conciousness (I still follow the IR plan) that a lower dose will probably be effective hormonally for me.

CONGRATS on that amazing weight loss! Definetly talk to your Dr and do as mine did...do a trial of the lower dose and then re-test your labs in 6 mos to see if everything is where it should be. I feel so much better on the lower dose and it's been a good thing after 4 years on the higher dose, it was the right move for me.

Good luck!

Red face Met dosage.

Christyz, I briefly wondered if I might get a reply from you when I wrote the thread! I know your success with Met and that you have been able to keep things going, so kinda hoped you might have been one that did reduce it to see what happened. I would love it if I could drop down to 1000, just to have less medication in my body. I do not do the exercise that I should (follow the IR diet), although I'm working on that. So I may not be a good candidate for the 1000 mgs. Soo excited to see that specialist in just a few weeks now, I made the apt. in Oct. it was the earliest she had! Congratulations to you as well, you are such an inspiration for me!
