I'm also rarely 98 degrees. The lowest reading I had was 93 when I was having some sort of attack with vertigo and passing out. My doctors don't know what the hell caused it, but it happens a few times a year to me, has for my entire life.

I've always had low body temperature, I come in at 96.8 as my average temp, sometimes higher, sometimes lower. My doctor says it really isn't anything to worry about since it is only a couple degrees off.
My normal temp is 95.3. When I was a kid and went to the emergency room for something or other, the nurses always took my temp on two different machines because they'd think the first was broken. XD
Mine was running low for a year. Doctors finally figured out that it was low iron stores. (ferritin) Hemoglobin always measured normal. I still needed an iron infusion.

Some people just have a lower body temp than others and it can change either way. Low temp can be from anemia or an underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism...which is rather common in ladies with PCOS). You may need to have your iron and TSH levels checked.

I'm glad I asked this question! Mine were always normal (98.6) until a few months ago. I got pregnant and suddenly they went low. I pleaded (literally) with my OB to test my progesterone and she (a catholic service) wouldn't until 3 days before we lost our son. I had spotting (similar to the endless spotting I have now).
Since then, during the luteal phase my temps wouldn't go up to their normal 99.5. I thought nothing of it, and was actually glad I wasn't an oven for days before my period.
Had two normal cycles - both 26 days apart - then BAM this cycle screwed me. (am i allowed to say that on here? lol).
My progesterone is currently 2.4 and I have been spotting over 2 weeks!
To the ladies who mentioned low iron stores, I have PLENTY. I have thalassemia and I couldn't let go of iron if I tried I was anemic (which i am very glad some of you brought up!), but now I am not.
I will get more blood tests done on Saturday. I hope, maybe I can help some of you if I can figure out what's going on on my end.
Oh and to the woman who said she always feels hot - i do too LOL! The lower the temp, the hotter I feel. When I feel chilly, it just means it's rising. Odd isn't it!
Interesting replies. I have been anemic before, but I can't tolerate iron pills of any kind. Never have. I immediately get sick from them and either throw them up, or get diarrhea. I get my iron from spinach mostly and other veggies.
Every time I see my doctors they mention they want to run a thyroid test on me, but I remind them they already did (as my file is pretty big and I'm sure they don't memorize it) and all tests are always normal.
But yeah, feeling cold all the time I think is a symptom of thyroid problems. I'm not sure if that means a low temperature, or just feeling cold. For me, I get cold in my hands and feet all the time, and a low temperature.

I have always had a low body temp. If I have a fever, its usually somewhere just barely over 99 degrees. Normal is around 97.1. I have been anemic on and off my entire life. I was checked for thyroid disorders and those came back in the normal range.
I cannot tolerate iron pills as well. Recently found out that those of us with PCOS cannot tolerate iron in pill form, we can only get it naturally from food. Iron pills thin out our blood so if we get cut, we bleed forever which I remember that from when I was on the pre-natal vitamins, I cut myself on accident several times and bled a lot.

I average about 97.6 but there were a few months where I felt absolutely terrible and I tracked my temps and they were 96's, but after I excercised it would drop to 94's. It freaked me out. It turns out it was hypoglycemia. I started eating right and I went back up to my normal. If you are having a change in your norm I would consider a blood sugar problem as the cause. I believe that IR and low temp are related (no facts, my opinion).
Change your diet, take your vitamins, and try to rule out any medications you are taking.
