Yesterday morning I noticed I had a sore area inside my vagina right next to the clitoris when I wiped. I accidentally bought the wrong tampons the other day so I figured it was just a sore spot from that so I quit using the tampons and was wearing only a pad. I woke up this morning and went to the restroom, it was extremely painful when I wiped. I started feeling around a bit and there is a big knot right next to my clitoris on the left side (so close they are practically touching).
I had my husband take a look and he said it is about 2.5 inches long and about an inch wide. There is no discoloration at all, it just looks like a welt under my skin. It is super painful though! Today is the 9th day of my period (I'm just barely spotting now after a super heavy AF this month). The tampons were the wrong tampons due to them being scented, do you think the fragrance could have done this to me? What do I do? It really hurts.
I prefer not to visit the doctor as I cannot afford a trip to see her but I will go to the ER in the neighboring town if I ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO. Any ideas?
I have been with my husband since I was 18 years old. He is the only partner I have ever had and I am his only partner. We have not had sex in about 3 weeks due to a D&C that was done on March 27th and then AF came the day after I was cleared for sex. I'm sorry for the TMI-ness of this post, I just didn't know where else to turn. I tried to talk to my mom about this issue but she doesn't really have a clue what is going on. Thank you cysters for always being here when I need you!

Reason: Add Information
From what you've written, I think it's probably Hidradenitis Suppuritiva -- that's a complicated name for boils in places you sweat. A boil is really just the biggest, nastiest zit you could ever have, nothing to be scared of, it's just really unpleasant.
Having boils 'down there' is known to be associated with PCOS and can vary from just occasionally having a small boil or two before AF to many large boils under the arms, breasts, groin... pretty much anywhere a person has sweat glands... all the time.
The more extreme form is rare, but from what I've read on here, I think the milder form is much more common with PCOS than most of us would care to admit.
The appearance of a boil seems to be triggered by hormone changes and has nothing to do with cleanliness. The bacteria involved in the boils are usually normal skin bacteria that every healthy person has on their skin. It's just that PCOS, or other hormone changes, seem to sometimes give normal bacteria the right conditions to become a problem.
Antibiotics can help, so it would probably make sense to go to your doctor, especially as you seem to have a boil starting in one of the most uncomfortable places it possibly could be (and, yes, I've had one there so I can speak from experience).
It may not be the most pleasant thing to discuss with a doctor. Remember that by the time a doctor graduates from medical school they will have seen things like that many times before and will not be surprised or shocked, and you have nothing to be embarrassed about in getting help.
yes sounds like a boil. i used to get them in the creases of my legs real bad when i was a young teen. i have had them right at the opening to my vagina and they were super super painful. mine usually go away after a few days. i don't put anything on them cause i don't know what to put down there. if it doesn't get better soon i would head to the dr or ER. thats gotta hurt

I have Hidradenitis Suppuritiva pretty bad. When it flares up I have to be put under general anesthesia so they can be lanced about 98% of the time. This is not the same thing as the HS (I could be wrong b/c I have never had one in my vagina before so I guess it could present itself different, but I don't think it is HS). It is more like a rock under the skin. It is not a bartholin gland cyst either as it is not in the correct location. Has anyone ever gotten a sebaceous cyst in that area? I've been googling all day trying to find all of the possiblities here.
About a month ago I had a lump in the exact spot as you did. As usual I freaked out and searched online. I kinda got scared when I started to read all these horrible things it could be. As I dug deeper I found out it could be and in my cause probably was one of the three. You have glads that secrete your vaginal fluids and sometimes they get clogged and cause a lump, a cyst, or in my case what I think it was is a swollen lymph node. When a lymph node becomes swollen it can be very sensitive. I had to have one taken out of my neck when I was younger because it swelled up so big you could see it popping out of my neck and could be so painful I could barley turn my neck.
I decided I would wait a few days and see if it went away on its own and it did. I was so relieved because I can scare myself thinking something horrible is wrong and sometimes I even get scared to take prescription meds. How long have you had this lump? If it doesn't go away soon I would suggest going to see your DR. More than likely it is nothing serious but if your like me a borderline hypochondriac it can really freak you out and going to the DR can ease your mind.

i get these all the time around my AF. Normally they are on the inside lips of my vagina. When I saw the doctor for them she explained it like a zit and she squeezed the living daylights out of it!! So now whenever I get them I soak in a hot tub and while in the tub squeeze the bump. It may take several times and you may not get it. But keep squeezing it everyday. Instead of a bath everyday you can put a HOT wet washcloth on the bump. Good luck... I know how horrible these are!
Dropey - About a year and a half ago I had a lymph node in my neck swell up to the point I couldn't turn my head. I was vacationing in CA when it came it up so I went to the ER. While triage was filling out my paperwork they realized I wasn't from CA and promptly sent me home telling me to visit my doctor when I got home. By the time I got home the lymph node was no longer swollen so we never did anything about it. I also always have very swollen lymph nodes in my armpits. These things make me think that is also what is happening down below right now. I noticed a bit of a burning type sensation on Sat. and then Sun. when I woke up it was huge.
Lovemychris - Thanks for the article, it was very interesting and informative.
lovinlucy - When you get these lumps are they generally red or anything? Mine just looks like a welt under the skin. It isn't red, dry, nothing. Just a huge lump under the skin. I hot packed it all day yesterday and there are still no signs of it doing anything. In fact, I think it's a lot bigger than it was yesterday. Is that normal?
Hey Cys.
If this is the 1st time you've had one I'd suggest that you call your Dr. I had a really bad one last year that they were about to lance. It popped on it's own in Ugent care and it was ICKY. Now if I notice one on or around my genital area I call the Dr. they prescribe an antibiotic and I notice an improvement w/in the day. I'm not into taking meds and I especially hate taking antibiotics, but I don't mess around with infections in that area.
Take Care :-)
Hey Fost,
I just realized this isn't the 1st one you've had, sorry I missed that, but if you haven't tried this already please see if your Dr. can call in a script. After seeing me for this before now all I have to do is call my GYN and he'll call in an antibiotic without seeing me. Take Care

Reason: I'm in la la land, and didn't realize this wasn't the 1st one you've had. Sorry Cysta Girl.
Sorry it took me so long to get back to ya! The lump that I get is Big and White. Sometimes it gets worse before it gets better. If it is not gone by 7 days I would call the doctor, just beware if they go to pop it, it hurts super bad!!!!
I just thought I'd update you ladies. The lump is still there but has been draining blood and clear liquid for a couple of days now. It isn't quite as sore and I can tell there is a core in there (I'm not sure what its made of) that is about the size of a marble. It isn't too painful since it started draining a little bit. I keep hot packing it hoping that core will come out one of these days.
^ I get lumps like that on my inner thighs sometimes. I've always called them pimples, so I pop them like pimples. TMI but when it squirts the blood and puss (whatever the white is) it tends to feel sooo much better.

Just wanted to update everyone. The lump is no longer leaking nor is it extremely huge. It is still there but not painful so I don't even really notice it unless I feel it when I wipe. I still have no idea what this is for sure as I didn't see a doctor, but if it flares up again I will definitely go for a visit.
