Default Lupron

Hi there. Back in early December I was diagnosed with PCOS, and after doing all my research on the subject, I can bet I've had this for many, many years. Anyhow, in addition to the PCOS, I had a laproscopic surgery, h-scope and a D&C done four weeks ago. I was told that I had endometriosis (which I alredy knew), but it was covered everywhere, and I also have ademyosis as well. My doctor wants me to take Lupron for three months so that the "disease" can die down, and then we are going to do a hysterectomy. Needless to say, when I found this out I did my homework on the Lupron and was not very happy with everything that I read. I went back to my dr. and discussed my concerns etc and though he did tell me it does have its side effects, he felt that I needed to take it. I had my first shot last night. Do any of you here take it or have you taken it? What were your side effects? How soon til they kicked in? Did you find that you gained weight with it?

I am sorry for all the questions....just searching for real answers, I suppose. And I do realize we are all different and react to things differently.

Thanks!

I have taken Lupron with my IVF cycles and except for a little tenderness in my thigh from the shot, I didn't have any side effects or weight gain. Good luck to you!!

I have to ask why he is giving it to you if you are having the hysterectomy?

The ONLY reason to do the Lupron is to control the endo and andeo long enough in order to try to get pregnant.

So if he is planning on taking everything, he is just soaking your insurance company and you for extra money and I find that ethically wrong. These shots can cost up to $1000 a piece.

So I would suggest you get clearification on this.

BTW, these shots can only be used for up to 6months. Then you have to wait a full six months to start them again.
So if you are et to have a hysterectomy, then you should NOT do the Lupron. The side effects can be worse than what you are currently facing.

I too was offered the shots. But the dr said since I was done having kids, it is a waste of time and money.

I had my total, both ovaries removed March 2003.
If you need for info, let me know.

Patty

Hi Patty. Thanks for replying. We are doing the lupron for three months in order for the disease to "die down". It is really active in there and he said if he were to do the hyster right now, it would be a harder surgery, and a harder recovery for me. He thinks after three months things should be completely settled and not active at all.

I would guess you have stage 4 endo then. That is very serious.

I wish you the very best in recovery.
