My Mood: Points: 10,252.67 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 10,252.67 | Lupron Depot to diagnose endometr?? huh?? Can anyone answer question for me? Any idea why a Doctor would want to use Lupron Depot to diagnose endometriosis instead of a laparoscopy? My Doc wants to put me on it for 6 months...and said if my symptoms subside then...then I have endometriosis. At that point - we would consider treatments options such as a hysterectomy, etc. I have been in PAIN! Isn't the normal plan of attack to diagnosis endometriosis to do a laparoscopy first? I'm confused????????????????? I don't know what to do. I read that Lurpon can lower HDL (which is already usually low with PCOS) I actually just spent the last 5 years trying to get my HDL HIGHER. Why would I want to lower it again. I read that Lupron Depot can contribute to depression....osteoporosis.....hot flashes.....and cardiovascular problems in individuals with lipid problems. Well - part of PCOS is HYPERLIPIDEMIA. Lipid problems. Has anyone ever heard of this plan of attack?? to determine if someone has endometriosis? ISN'T A LAPAROSCOPY usually done first?! Help. What do I do?! |

My Mood: Points: 326.37 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 326.37 | Hi,
OMG you sound exactly like me today!! I have had a laporoscopy in the past for the endo about 5 years ago from a different dr than I went to today. I had this outrageous horrible period last week, pain, throwing up, exessive bleeding. He put me on Prometrium to stop bleeding but pain never subsided so I went back to day and he said he thinks I need a shot of Lupron because he doesnt think the surgery could help much. They think I had a cyst that ruptured and sent my pelvis into a tailspin with hormones and all. I have a clotting disorder, so I steer clear of hormones and I also have a depression problem so I am worried about doing the Lupron thinking I will be a total wreck.
I too have been working so hard the last few years to lose weight and get my LDL and HDL under control. I don't want all my hard work to be for naught.
Let me know what you find out.

My Mood: Points: 131.42 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 131.42 | Hi Ladies, I have severe PCOS and slight endometriosis and my dr. recommended Lupron as well. Much like you, after reading about it I freaked out! Well unfortunately my doctor was not as reassuring as I would have liked, actually she told me to see someone knew when I brought up my concerns because I didn't trust her! Nonetheless what I have found in my research on Lupron is that there are many negative side effects and the best thing to do is take somthing to counter those effects such as a low dose antidepressant and bone loss medication such as norethinadrone. Hope that helps a little. |

I too have a suseptibility to depression - so Lupron would just be a nightmare for me! Thats all I need - to get the pain under control but then to have depression that would come with its own set of problems....not to mention the HDL/LDL factor and throw in a little bone loss..... - nope...........not for me! I am looking for a PCOS KNOWLEDGEABLE Doctor in my area - that still uses a laparoscopy for treatment/diagnosis of endometriosis. Wish me luck! I will keep you posted....and best of luck to you as well! I hope your feeling better. Quote:

However, I have never heard of it being used as a diagnostic tool. From what I understand, the definitive way to diagnose endometriosis is laparoscopy.
I would probably look for a second opinion. When my doctor suspected endometriosis, she scheduled a laparoscopy and it was only after the results were in (I do have endo) that we discussed treatment options. I chose to use BCP's to help control my pain.

Also..... There is a book The Savvy woman's guide to PCOS written by Elizabeth Lee Vliet. I know that one of her offices in AZ somewhere. It would be worth it to at least try to see if you could find it.

My Mood: Points: 255.30 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 255.30 | I had a lap done last week and was diagnosed with Endo. Today at my follow up he told me he wanted me to look into Lupron and hes going to talk with me about it in 2 weeks. I came on here to look for some info on it from women who have taken it, not just the medical stuff. So does it make it so that you cannot get pregnant while on it? Because I am actually ttc and I dont know why he would put me on that? If anyone has any good info on it or knows of any good sites I would greatly appriciate it! Thanks Ladies!

As far as I know, you cannot get PG while on Lupron. Basically, it shuts down your cycle.

Hmmmm... I wonder why they wanna put me on that when they know I wanna get pregnant... I've read up on it some and the side effects seem horrible! I do not think this is the medicine for me then! Do you know if there are any other meds they use?

Points: 335.17 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 335.17 | It is not a diagnostic tool. I was given it after my lap which kinda diagnosed endo. I hated the med. I gained a ridiculous amount of weight in less than three months and had all the menopause symptoms. Some people have had no issues with the lupron, so don't just take my issues with the med.
As far as TTC with the lupron - it won't happen. It induces menopause and is meant to interrupt your cycles and throw your body into a shock of sorts to keep anything else from forming, etc. If you aren't comfortable, please get another opinion. |

A good physician will advise you that although your period ceases, other forms of birth control, such as condoms should be used if you do not wish to get pregnant. For those of you that do want to get pregnant, I would specifically ask about any potential side effects to the baby should you get pregnant while on the medication. |

But she did say that doctors are trying to go more on symptoms and family history to dx it. She said that they try not to do laps because that can cause problems later on. She told me that all my symptoms match that of endometriosis, and since my mother battled it from her teens until her hysterectomy at the age of 31. I was put on Lupron, started it in December and it should be out of my system by the end of next month. I go to my gyno next month and we are gonna discuss my next options. Personally, I went through hell on Lupron. At one point I was even mean. I think I almost could have hurt someone and thought nothing of it and that was so scary. I think it did help my major symptoms and took away a lot of my pain, but I still have troubles.
