Points: 2,754.07 Bank: 47.89 Total Points: 2,801.96 | M/C but beta still rising Hey girls,
Got my beta back today and it is rising. My dr said he is not ready to give up yet and wants me to wait til next mon to get another beta. I already know in my heart that this pg is over but for some reason he just won't get on board with me.
Here is the whole story. LMP was Jan 10. FF says I O'd on cd15. got my bfp @ 11dpo so I am 100% on my dates. I am a sono tech and did several sono's myself and had some associate sono techs do a few. Well, I had one done on Mar 4 and there was no heartbeat after there had been one before and baby was measuring 6w0d when it should have been 7w4d. I called my dr and he wanted one done at the hospital and read by a radiologist. So on Mon Mar 7 I had another sono. Report said suspicious for fetal demise instead of fetal demise so my dr is convinced I am off on my dates. The baby was measuring only 6w0d when it should have been 8w0d. You should definitely see the hb when hcg is over 6000. I had a beta done on Mar 3 and it came back at 29360 and the previous one done 10 days prior was 13536 so it had barely doubled in 10 days when it should be doubling about every 96 hrs at this point. I had another hcg drawn yesterday and it came back 34628 so that means it went up but not appropriately. I saw what I saw on sono. The baby never measured bigger than 6w3d and you don't see the heartbeat and then stop seeing it for a while and then see it again.
Anyone have experience like this? I already stopped my prog supplements so I could m/c naturally but so far nothing is happening. I know sometimes your body doesn't get the msg that the baby quit growing so the hcg goes up while the ges sac is in tact. I am just ready for this to be over so we can try again.
TIA,
Sherry

My Mood: Points: 26,242.29 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 26,242.29 | {{{{HUGS}}}} The same thing happened to me my last m/c. I ended up having to get a methotrexate shot (4 shots total actually). I had a suspected ectopic but no evidence of it except rising/falling/rising betas. I would get another u/s & make sure they check around your tubes, etc to make sure you don't have a suspected ectopic. If there is still no h/b then unfortunately, there really is no hope when there was a h/b & then not one. I know it's hard to hear & I didn't believe it when it first happened to me but I've come to realize that h/b's just don't start beating & then stop beating... If you do have an ectopic or a missed m/c, it needs to be taken care of b/c it can cause scar tissue & infection if it goes on as well as if it is ectopic, you can burst a tube.

It helps to know I am not alone. I know I am not wrong or crazy about this.
Angel eyes ~ It is definitely intrauterine so I'm not worried about an ectopic. The thing I am worried about most is getting a Rhogam shot b/c I am Rh negative and want to protect future pregnancies.
Lori ~ Did it happen naturally or did you have to have a D&C?

My Mood: Points: 26,242.29 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 26,242.29 | I too had an intrauterine missed m/c & a suspected ectopic. I've heard of women getting the methotrexate shot for an early intrauterine missed m/c though. I personally would get a D&C. I think it was worse going naturally as well as w/ the methotrexate shot. You can get the Rhogam shot any time afterwards (just before you get pg again) & you'd be fine.
If your betas are that high I don't know why your dr isn't concerned that there is no h/b. I would think your dr would want to find out why & do something about it. There is a high risk of infection if you go on w/ a missed m/c & it's not taken care of.

I'm so sorry you have to experience this.
I had a rising beta even though I miscarried. At 6 weeks exactly I had an ultrasound with no heartbeat and my beta doubled overnight. Although it was declared at that point as an unviable pregnancy it still continued to climb for weeks before slowly dropping. It was also weeks before I passed the sac. It was a very long and difficult time.
If you have the option of going to your local hospital emegency you might want to give it a try with out dealing with your doctor and having an answer sooner rather than later.
I hope that it's just a case of date misjudgement and everything works out. |
