Question Was it a m/c?? Please help

Ok, this past summer my family and I were going on vacation. When we stopped to eat at a resturant I had a strong urge to use the rest room. When I went in there I passed what looked exactly what I would imagine and what I have since seen in books as about a 6-7 week baby. It was small about 1/2 in or so shaped like a kidney bean with some detail I wont go into. Anyway I freaked out. I couldn't take it with me I was in a fast food restroom. I couldn't go to the hospital (I would have ruined everyone's trip). So I flushed and have regreted it ever since. Before I passed it I had only mild cramping but after it was horrible. Alot of blood too. When we came home I did some research about m/c and it said alot of women have m/c on their own so I decided that unless I had problems I wouldn't go to the dr. I bled heavy for about two weeks and then lighter after that. 6 weeks later I went to my dr. told her I thought I had a m/c and she said she didn't think I had. She thought I passed a polyp. What???? A polyp!! I know what I saw, and I know what I felt. Could I have been wrong? How could I make that kind of mistake?

She had asked me if I had a + test and I told her I hadn't taken a test. I wasn't charting or testing and I never have af on my own so I thought nothing of it. Looking back I did have symptoms of pg.

At that same appt she told me I had an infection. I came home and looked it up and it said that it was commonly caused by m/c. At my next appt I ended up having to have my cervix biopsied.

I truely believe I had a m/c, I felt a loss and an emptiness like I've never felt before. Could I have been wrong? I've never even heard of a polyp in your reproductive organs. Has anyone else ever been told their m/c wasn't an m/c at all??? Please help me figure this out.

I'm sorry about what happened. To me (and I am no doc) it sure sounds like a strong possibility that it was a miscarriage. Especially the part about the doc telling you about the infection and finding that it is normally caused by micarriage.

It sounds like an early loss. If you strongly feel like this, then I would suggest exploring your feelings about it and decide what you need from other people in your life regarding this experience, especially DH. I'm very sorry about it. Please let us know what you decide. ((Hugs))

Thank you for your thoughts, but is it up to me to decide? I feel I had a m/c but don't I need a doctor to agree with me? What about when I go to my RE and he asks what has happened while I wasn't seeing him, do I say I had a m/c? I know what I saw and I know how that felt, but with my dr not believing me is makes me feel like my feelings are not valid. What do you all think?

it sounds like you know in your heart what happened. it is sad and awful, but you really don't need a doc's opinion on it. they weren't there and can't really add anything but speculations at this point. just take care of yourself and make sure they are paying attention to you. it is good that you finally went to the doc, though. i wasn't sure if i had a mc or not (it was much like yours) but i definately should have gone to the doc because i didn't have af again for 3 years and (this is way gross) the mc didn't fully complete when it happened. i could have totally ruined my chances for ever having a baby. i don't think there's any realy way of scientifically proving that you were pg, but you don't really need that. you should tell your re that you think you may have had a mc. your doc will not validate that which they have no evidence of, as horrid as it is. they have to cover themselves. i am sorry this happened to you. i hope you feel better.

Lisa - It does sound like you had a m/c, although I know the dr's probably won't be able to tell you that with any certainty. I wish that you could know without any doubts whether you did or not, since I'm sure it's probably makes grieving a confusing thing. I hope you are able to find peace through this. (((hugs)))
