Question MAC Make-Up vs. Bare Escentuals

I seen that alot of you wear either Mac Make-up or Bare Escentuals. I was wondering what the difference is and why you choose one and not the other. I am looking into trying one and wanting to know why you pefer the one you use and why you like it so much, and what exactly do you get when you buy there products do you just buy the foundation or powder etc. Please let me know, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Default MAC or Bare Escentuals

Please don't put your apples in only two baskets, ladies.

MAC -- I never tried it.

Bare Escentuals -- I have a few of their kits and I love their brushes. I also love their blushes and eye shadows because they look very natural. Their foundation is good too because it's mineral based and doesn't wear off on clothing. All their products leave a shimmer to my skin. HOWEVER, I don't use Bare Escentuals foundation on my cheeks or my chin because their coverage isn't very good on hair growth.

I've tried a number of different foundations and believe me when I say that the best one I have found is called Cover Blend by Neostrata. I love it! It has great coverage on the areas with hair growth but looks oh so natural. And it lasts all day for me! Unlike Bare Escentuals, it actually is a anti-aging treatment for your skin in addition to providing sunscreen protection.

Neostrata also carries a variety of products including cleaners, moisturizers, etc. I just tried one of their cleansers and it is wonderful. It cleans thoroughly and leaves my skin soft and supple - it doesn't strip any moisture away from your skin. I would highly recommend it.

I agree. These 2 brands are actually notorious for causing acne in many ppl. There are SO many other brands of mineral makeup out there that do NOT have the shine or the bismuth...and are cheaper than BE too!

I recently broke down and tried BE. I cannot stress how much I love this stuff. I bought a sampler on EBay to try it out and then ordered the basics afterwards. It took me awhile to get the right combination of foundations (my skin never fits into one "color"), but I can honestly say that I am pleasantly surprised. I do continue to use a small amount of regular, "creamy" concealer (jawline) in addition to the BE makeup, and my skin looks great! It has never looked this healthy, even without makeup. I continue to use benzoyl peroxide cream under my makeup, more for preventive purposes at this point and to control shine. I love not having that gunky feeling of liquid makeup that rubs off on everything! This stuff looks natural but yet stunning! I would highly recommend it.

I don't have acne, but I have to say that I like Jane Iredale mineral makeup WAY better than BE. There's absolutely no shine to it. (BE made me look like the Tin Man.)

Plus Jane Iredale comes in pressed compacts (as well as, loose), and in a huge variety of colors.

They sell JI in a lot of dermatologists offices and skin clinics.

(I also like MAC, but I can't speak about how it does or doesn't work with acne-prone skin.)

I don't have acne and I use both. I've been using MAC since the early 90s. I love, love, love their lipsticks and eyeshadows! I only started using BE last year and I'm enjoying it, too.

I love Clinque's Clarifying Makeup. I have always had acne problems, but not with this. I also live in the South and work in recreation so I am either at the ballfields or at the pool all year round. I do not have to worry about this makeup sweating off or anything of that nature. I have found that when choosing colors I have to stick with neutral tones and typically have to buy 2 different shades to mix when putting on-but thats ok because of how well it looks and works.

I'm also a big fan of Clinique's clarifying makeup. It has a nice matte finish and never gets shiney. The only thing I wish was better about it was the coverage. It doesn't provide too much in the way of covering acne. I'm in love with MAC lipglosses. Stays longer than any of the others I've tried.
