Exclamation major hair loss HELP!!!

Hello everyone! My name is Jaci and I am new on here. I have been diagnosed w/pcos. I have been experiencing major hair loss on my head and major hair growth everywhere else. The doctor I was going to put me on metformin and spironalact. I know that the spironalact is for hair growth and I thought it was for hair loss too but I recently found out that it doesnt help that. The doctor I was seeing was the only endocrinologist in the area and was I wasnt happy with him. Please somebody please let me know if your having the same problem. When I was pregnant I gained alot of weight (which was the reason why I have this now) so all I have left is my hair and my face! And I would look awfully funny w/o any hair!

The PCOS wasn't caused by weight - it was probably just aggravated by it. That's a touchy subject with me because my OBGYN told me that PCOS is something made up by fat women to excuse their gluttony (she's no longer my OBGYN).

Are you taking a good multivitamin? I take one, and an essential fatty acids capsule and biotin daily for hair loss. I also use a seaweed shampoo and a deep conditioner daily. I have noticed a major difference. I don't know if it would work for you, but anything's worth a try at this point, right?

I've got no idea how to stop the hair growth. I use Vaniqa, which is a prescription cream that you put on twice/day. It's pricy, though, and it only slows down the hair growth. The hair comes back once you stop using it. It works, though. I only have to do one light plucking daily now, instead of two intensive pluckings! And I only have to wax for the little hairs once/month now.

Hopefully, somebody else will reply with more info.

Spironolactone is an anti-androgen. So, theoretically it should help with your hair loss as well as excess hair. You have to give it time though. Same with metformin. You might want to check out the hair forum for more tips on how to deal with this. I have hair loss as well, and I know how hard it is. I also take met and spiro, but haven't been on long enough to know if it will help me. Good luck.
