Unhappy Major Mood Swings Due To Hormones?

Good Evening everyone,

Well I'm 21 and i was diagnosed with PCOS at 18.....

i have a quick question and hopefully someone can help me..

Having PCOS....for some reason i have major hormonal breakdowns...

i cry i feel a bit out of control.....when i dont take my birthcontrol pills...

it's as if the pills keep me hormonally balanced...

It's starting to affect my relationship with my boyfriend...

But i cry alot and become sad,,,,and nervous...

Is this normal?

Thanks...hopefully someone can help me out

Yes hormones do play a big role in mood swings. You can learn to control them though. Eating healthy and getting exercise - being healthy can help put you in a better mood naturally.

Also sometimes you just need to let people around you know that you're feeling rather hormonal and might say something you don't mean. I know some days I used to tell my ex that I was feeling really emotional and I just needed some time to myself. This usually prevented a big fight or a big break down. Go relax somewhere, play some music to match your mood. Eventually it will fade and no one's feelings get hurt in the process.

May I ask why you're not taking the pill regularly? It really helps it work if you take it everyday around the same time....

Hi.. I definetly can relate to how you are feeling. I thought I was going to hurt someone when I got mad.. just because the anger and pain I felt was almost abnormal. After being diagonsed with PCOS, I was put on birth control (yasmin) I felt better after abt 2 months of taking it. My husband would often say he has to walk on egg shells around me because I would cry all the time... and get mad for no reason. I'm feeling better with the help of BCPs. It really sucks to have to rely on medicine to feel normal, but I like the way I feel with the meds than without. Hope this helps :-)

I'm realizing that this is a problem for me. I've been off BCP since Jan (we're TTC), and on Metforming for about 6 weeks. I used to handle stress and difficult situations really well (I took pride in it!), but lately I've been losing it constantly. My DH is very supportive, but I can tell it's starting to bother him. Has anyone had any help from Metformin on this?

I was reading this post and decided it was time for me to join. For the past few months the topic of BCP and mood swings have been on my mind a lot. I wasn't for sure if the BCP had any affect on my moods and helping control them until recently. After being off of Yasmin for almost 8 months because I was severely depressed I was put on Yaz. I was having very strange mood swings the month or 2 before I started taking yaz I couldn't understand why I would get overwhelmed over nothing. When I started the Yaz everything sort of calmed down and I got control of my emotions again, but I haven't taken it in the past 2 weeks and I'm not liking the low mood I've been in. I hate feeling like I have to take a pill just to stay level but I also hate being depressed. I am an emotional person and I am very good at keeping cool during stressful times, but without yaz my estrogen drops and I'm moody. Is it true that an unbalance of hormones are a big part of depression?

it might also have to do with your blood sugar... not to deny the hormone factor, but it might be worth investigating if your diet is causing some of your problems... I know when I changed my diet recently I put in me in a much better and even mood
