Question Major side effects help needed

Hi! So I am now on day 3 of taking Metformin, 1000 mg a day. I take it shortly before I eat dinner, only because that's when I was told to, not sure the importance of that. Anyways, since day 1, I wake up with intense headaches and nausea. The headache usually goes away by mid-morning, but the nausea does not. Today I have been battling it all day and have not been able to eat anything for fear of everything coming back up. In addition I have the wonderful "runs," but that is so much better than this nausea. Also, this may or may not be related, I have been having really bad heart burn, but lower down like below the rib cage. Has anyone gone through anything like this? Is it normal? Any suggestions on how to make the nausea go away?
Thanks!!

Did you start out taking 1000 mg a day? It might be to much for you to start with. You could half the pill (with an ok from your doc or pharmacist). I think 1000 mg is too high to start out with and makes you more prone to have side effects.

I just started Met last week and after the first two days I was feeling dramatically better. I started on 500mg and am working slowly up to 1500mg. I would see if you can cut back and start at 500mg and work your way up. I hope your feeling better soon!!

i HAVE THE same problem...I take 875mg , 3 times a day. My body got used to it....so the diarehea stopped.

I hsve horrible heart burn still after 7 months. I have started taking OTC Prioslex. I already have a bad galbladder. Im dieing.

My dh thinks , since I changed my diet, that I should cut down on the MET....My next Endo appt isnt until May 08...and I am not wanting to wean myself....

My 2 cents

I have the same symptoms. I find they are lessened when I take my pills in the middle of a meal, so halfway through breakfast and dinner.

Are you taking two 500mg pills? If so, it's much, much easier on your system to take them 12 hours apart. I am also on 1000mg, and I take on 500mg pill with breakfast and the other with dinner. If you're taking a 1000mg pill, ask your doc for a new prescription for 500mg twice daily.
