I use Avon foundation...I forget the name, it's in a bottle with a pump, and it has acne medication in it (salicyc acid..sp?) the same as many acne medicines.
I wear make up almost everday and it's more because it control my acne than because of wearing the foundation.
If I go more than a day or two without it, I really break out.

DOn't know how much you guys are spending on MAC and all those other brands but this one is about $8 and doesn't leave me oily at all.

Cysters,

I have been trying several suggestions made regarding make-up, but I still have not found any that really work. I am very, very
o-i-l-y and my face looks and feels like I can make french fries by 9:00 a.m. I live in south Texas and our temps right now are ranging in the 100's and above. My Derm always tells me to look on the bright side no...wrinkles. Keep your suggestions coming, I'll try anything.

Thanks for all your imput.

Hi Selina, I just read your post and I was wondering if you have ever tried Mary Kay products? They have a whole skin care line that can be customized to your oily skin.
One of the great products is Oil Mattifier. You apply it after your moisturizer, and it actually prevents shine on your face for up to 8 hours!!
Email me if you would like more info: happyjenn22@hotmail.com.

Selina,

I don't know how oily your face is but I can tell you what I experienced.

I had really really bad scarring cystic acne from the age of 13 to 25. At 25, I got on accutane. It is a very harsh drug therefore I am unable to say "GO FOR IT" but I can say "check into it with much caution and read up about it". I had side effects..moodiness, depression...peeling elbows and hands...and lips that would not stop peeling!

Finally after 5 months, I quit it.

Before the accutane, if I pushed my nose up against a window, I left a huge streak. When I went somewhere humid (like Texas), my skin literally DRIPPED with sweat and oil. My face was shiny in ALL my pictures. My zits were so bad, I had purple lesions (sp?) in my face.

I went to Planned Parenthood in my 20s to get the pill to help my acne...the PP on Alameda in San Jose. They refused to prescribe it for my acne since they told me "my problem is so serious, I need to see a dermatologist and get it handled."

At work after taking accutane, the VP of the Dept I worked in stopped me in front of God and everyone and said loudly "Well done! Your face looks much better! You finally got treatment!" I went into the bathroom and cried.

My face was REALLY OILY. NOTHING WOULD HELP IT. I tried Avon, Mary Kay, Maybelline...clinque...NOTHING. I then tried tetracylcine (and ended up getting reactions since I took it too long), other anti-biotics...retin A (didn't make a dent...but did make my skin peel and burn). FINALLY I got accutane after begging. My doctor tested my blood once a month on that pill.

The bright side is yes, I do look very youthful for my age (that is what everybody tells me). I STILL get carded at 35 sometimes. I am not a raving beauty but at least I got that going for me. Young guys hit on me sometimes not realising what an old spinster I am (but then that happens in dark clubs with them drinking lots of alcohol ). I bet that you get the same. Hehe.
Be blessed.

Americanwoman:

I have tried accutane about maybe 5 yrs ago., my acne was not that bad but the oilyness was. I stayed on it for 5 months and I never got so many compliments regarding my face in my life. My makeup stayed on all day, the only thing was that I was always at odds with my derm because of birth control. I mean I have PCOS I don't get af and I have been told that it would take a miracle to get pg. He wanted me to get pg tested and be on bc so I just quit taking it. I know the severe birth defects on it, I guess he was just taking precautions. I heard some people just take it to control oil. Have you heard anything like that??

I have tried Mary Kay, Avon, Mac. Channel powder/make up is still winning. Keep those suggestions coming because I am trying all of them.

Selina G. Reyes - I am glad you tried that option since it seemed to have helped you.

I personally like Dermablend powder & undereye make up. I have such dark circles people ask me if I am SICK or something. The powder makes that make up stay on for hours.

re. accutane. i'm just waiting until after i have a baby so that i can start. i'm really scared of it because it's so strong, but hearing your success stories gives me confidence. it's really my only option, as i took antibiotics so long that they stopped working.

re. make-up. when my skin started going from bad to worse, i invested a lot of $ into b. b. cosmetics. while i think it's a good, high-quality product, my acne didn't look any better because it seemed to break up and collect in my big pores when i tried to blend it - hence, no coverage. don't get me wrong, i'll probably use it again if my skin clears, but until then...

i've also tried stay clean foundation from almay, and i thought it was pretty good. since i can't find it here in germany, and am too lazy to order it, i'm going to give clinique a try.

my sister used prescriptives while she was dealing with acne, and has also recommended it to me.

Default MAC makeup powdery?

I'm intrigued by all you M.A.C.-lovers!

I need some new foundation and am tempted to try it, but I'm wondering if it goes on as a thick powder?

I really like liquid foundations because they blend in and look "moist" on your skin...not dry or cake-like.

If that's how this one works, does anyone have a recomendation for a LIQUID makeup that they really like?
I've tried a couple that are okay and not oily at all (Not all liquid makeups are oily!) but I don't really love them....looking for something new to try.

Another vote for Shiseido Pure!
Not surprising really, because it's a Japanese brand and Asians in general have an oilier skin.
Also, I really like Helena Rubinstein Mat Control. The cream as well as the foundation is very good and looks very natural. A while ago a friend complimented me on my skin. I said: 'O, it's just make up.' She was very surprised and said you reallly couldn't tell.
I also like the Givenchy powder.

I actually just started wearing make up because my cousin became a Mary Kay consultant. What I have been using for my regular facial treatments is actually the AVON Porefection line, they have a Cream Clay Cleanser, Mud Mask, & Mattifier. Then I wear Mary Kay make up.

Thumbs up M.A.C.

Hi ~X~,
I just wanted to tell you that M.A.C. Has 9 different types of foundations and I'm sure there is one for the type of look your trying to achieve.

Studio Fix
Studio Tech
Select
Select Tint
Full Coverage
Face & Body
Hyper Real
Studio Finish Matte
Studio Finish Satin

I personally use the Studio Fix cause I like the powdery matte look and I control how matte or supple I want it to look base on how much moisturizer I put on. I believe that all but maybe a few of their makeups are water based as well.

As a added bonus M.A.C. has a recycle program. Instead of throwing away your plastic compacts, lipsticks or any plastic M.A.C. containers, turn in any six and get a free lipstick.

Give it a try!

Bare minerals by bare escentuals, baby. I've tried so many others and I will NEVER go backkk never. Just be sure to at least get one of the deals where you get one of their face brushes for the foundation/mineral veil. I think though, that everything they have is so pigmented, get one shade lighter than whwat you think. And don't order that little kit off tv..go to QVC.com is the main page with all the bare minerals makeup.. also try face etc.com and ebay... I am super fair so I use the #1 fair spf 15 foundation..it looks like powder, and it goes on sooo easily with a brush, but its minerals, no talc, etc, it looks and covers like foundation thats liquid. And mineral veil is a must after,..its like a powder, it makes you rmakeup stay and gets rid of all the oilies. THere are no chemicals, oils, compeletely pure, y ou can even sleep in it. Ilove their eyeshadows, and their 'clear radiance' blush/all over color..its subltle pink glow. IT wont treat your acne, but it will cover it up, absorb oil and absolutely not make it worse. I use prescription acne treeatments, so I feel your PAIN. Just use bare minerals makeup afteryour treatments in the morning..its so natural and wonderfffulllll.

I use Loreal, I also like MAC, but I find that the worse makeup for me is Cover Girl, it always makes me breakout...even the eye shadow makes me breakout, breaking out on the eyelids is not fun!

I like the products offered by Elizabeth Arden. I find since using the products not only cover my acne but it has helped clear it up as well.
