Thumbs up M.A.C.

I am an avid user of the M.A.C. line also.
All of thier makeup is fabulous, but I am in love with the conceler and the Studio Fix. The conceler is in a small tube but lasts forever and ever.
My sister sells Avon and swears by their foundation and conceler. When Im out of MAC I'll give it a try. Plus it is cheaper! I saw it mentioned in another post.

Wink Mineral Makeup

I am a skin care therapist (an esthetician), and from experience the best make-up you can use that will not clog pores is mineral make-up. There is a wide variety such as Jane Iredale, Glow Minerals, Mary Corr, etc. Jane Iredale is my favorite, definetly, but if money is an issue you might want to try Glow. Minerals sit on the skin, stay on all day, and cover better than you could imagine!

Thumbs up i agree with jennlen

i use the neutrogena skin clarifying line of products because it's got the salicylic acid in it so it's non-comedogenic (doesn't clog pores). i've also been using proactiv solution but the problem is it only treats the surface, doesn't really prevent breakouts, well that's also due to the PCOS which is an endocrine problem, not a skin cleansing problem. but it does help somewhat. though, when you run out of it and you don't have your extra supply around, LOOK OUT, skin flares up like a volcano!

hopefully i'll get on meds soon for the PCOS. i have to consult my gyno for an endo and we have to work out an insurance payment plan since i lost mine since i graduated college.

anyway, i back up the neutrogena myself.

I just started Sheer Cover by Leeza Gibbons and I REALLY like it. It's a lot like the mineral stuff and it's really easy to use. It covers up a LOT of your blemishes. I think you go to sheercover.com and you can find it there.

Good luck.

Default DoubleWear Forever

Hi,

I have seen several recommendations for Estee Lauder Doublewear foundation. I think most women with PCOS have break outs and oily skin because of the excess androgens produced by our cystic ovaries. So I am not really sure if using one foundation opposed to another helps, as long is they are non-acnegenic and non-comedogenic.
I personally use Estee Lauder Doublewear because it has awesome coverage. I have to wash my face during the day because of excess oil, though. However, even though this foundation is expensive $30 US, and I use it and re-apply it frequently, It lasts me 4-5 months. Also, I don't feel that it is mask looking or unnatural.

Just my two cents.

Default Bare Escentuals

Does anyone else use Bare Escentuals?

I love it so far - was wondering if anyone else used it and what they thought?

I am about to start using Clinac for the oil UNDER the Bare Escentuals ...

Thanks!

I agree, I really like Bare Escentuals and don't think I will ever go back to anything else. I also use the "Fairly Light" color. LaurieAnne, you must be the one who always bids against me on eBay, LOL! I would definitely recommend going to eBay to buy it. It ends up being MUCH cheaper.

After wearing Base Escentuals, my skin actually got much better, probably because I wasn't putting as much pore-clogging mess on it day after day. I had tried MANY different make-ups before, this one is a lot better. The Bare Escentuals also has good coverage even though it is a "powder" (not talc, though). If I need extra coverage in a spot, I just take a little brush that's really supposed to be an eyeshadow brush and put it on a little thicker there, and then it blends perfectly. I really can't speak highly enough of the make-up.

I however, tried the Mineral Veil and really didn't like it. It's just a regular talc-based powder, and for me, it made the make-up look caked on. However, I could see its benefit if you are prone to shine. For me, I would just carry some of the regular Bare Escentuals make-up with me and a big fluffy makeup brush, and put a little more on to kill the shine.

I would also like to recommend that people who are having trouble with shine to try taking vitamin B5 in high doses. It really does make your face less oily, what it does is allow your body to metabolize it's fats and oils better. Start out at 1 or 2 g and work up to up to 10 g. It really does work. If you want, you can go to http://www.healthboard.com and go to their acne board, and you'll find lot of messages from people who've tried it. Just do a search for B5.

Just be sure to at least get one of the deals where you get one of their face brushes for the foundation/mineral veil. I think though, that everything they have is so pigmented, get one shade lighter than whwat you think. And don't order that little kit off tv..go to QVC.com is the main page with all the bare minerals makeup.. also try face etc.com and ebay... I am super fair so I use the #1 fair spf 15 foundation..it looks like powder, and it goes on sooo easily with a brush, but its minerals, no talc, etc, it looks and covers like foundation thats liquid. And mineral veil is a must after,..its like a powder, it makes you rmakeup stay and gets rid of all the oilies. THere are no chemicals, oils, compeletely pure, y ou can even sleep in it. Ilove their eyeshadows, and their 'clear radiance' blush/all over color..its subltle pink glow. IT wont treat your acne, but it will cover it up, absorb oil and absolutely not make it worse. I use prescription acne treeatments, so I feel your PAIN. Just use bare minerals makeup afteryour treatments in the morning..its so natural and wonderfffulllll.

Hello!

I too have acne prone skin... in fact we have had a long term relationship...lol. I have always had acne. Plus my skin is soooooooo oily. I have used everything under the sun,Estee Lauder, ProActiv, Neutrogena, Mac, on and on . But at times some of the products to help control the oil makes my face extremely dry. I started Mary Kay around 4 mo. ago, before that I used Clinique. I have to say I like MK better and have seen a difference in my skin. I cannot walk out of the house w/o make up on!

I get a lot of coverage from their make up and they have a line for acne prone skin, blotters, mattifiers, oil control lotion too. I especially like the idea that they tell you everything that is in their products. All of their consultants are very helpful. I like it so much that I became one too!

Hope this helps

The Sheer Cover stuff I bought broke me out!! So I went ahead and purchased some Bare Escentuals like everyone else here and I've had NO problems with it at all, just have a gripe that it doesn't cover up the zits as well (using their concealer powder, Bisque for it). I won't go back to regular makeup though, I like the minerals, not to mention I don't have problems with the cakey feel like other foundations do. It's lightweight which is great but the coverage isn't that great IMHO. Maybe I'm doing it wrong?

I can certainly sympathize with you and the Texas weather...I grew up in Corpus Christi (thank goodness for the Gulf breeze!)

I know you mentioned that you had taken antibiotics but have you seen a dermatologist lately?? I just went (for a laser consult) but mentioned I was getting ingrowns/acne more and more lately. He put me on the antibiotics (which I think I'll just take this month then quit...I am not a fan of them) and a new Retin-A like cream- called Differin which I apply at night, it is a synthetic form of retin a that is much more gentle on the skin-I have had no problems. I also wash with a prescription cream cleanser called Triaz and use the Triaz wipes in the am after I get out of the shower (these are .1% benzoyl peroxide).

I have to tell you my skin has never looked better (and it was mild acne before).

I highly recommend the dermatologist route, it sounds like you have exhausted all your other options. It would be so much better to get rid of the acne than just cover it up!!

Best of luck to you!

Default Bare Minerals

I use the bare minerals makeup from Bare Escentuals. They have the info mercials and sell on QVC. I get mine from dermstore.com.
My acne is pretty much under control using it and if I have a break out it covers well.

to cover any breakouts..first off make sure you are using a small concealer brush..i personally use a eyeshadow brush..just make sure its not a foam type applicator..has to be a brush..and put a bit on...then brush it on the acne fanning out in every direction...this will only work if the acne has not errupted..if it has..you are gonna end up w/ a bumpy look either way..

Good luck

I used every foundation under the sun and it always seemed to make me break out and made me look to made up. I have sworn off liquid make up for ever since i have tried BARE MINERALS i'm sure you have seen it on t.v. and i was skeptical but it is GGGGreat!!!!! And my skin has such a softer look just type in bare minerals and you will get plenty of web sites to look at. It really works and the coverage is great even though you wouldn't think so it is great.

I have tried a lot of brands as well. My favorite two are Prescriptives Virtual Matte Oil-Control Liquid Foundation and MAC's Studio Fix. Neither are inexpensive but money well spent. I especially love my Prescriptives because it truly looks like I do not have foundation on and it covers any acne/scars that others have not. I also like Mary Kay products but I am apparently allergic to something in their Timewise products because it makes my skin burn! But I love the eye shadows, blush, lipsticks and eye liner. Their eye liner is the BEST!
