I have found is that my male gyno who I have been with since I was 16 is so much more sympathetic, understanding and caring than some of the women drs GP's I have been to for yearly physicials. I quit seeing my gp and either go to my gyno for all female problems (and other things, if I am there to see him and I have ear pain, I get him to check it for me) or I go to a specialist (ENT, Internal, etc.) One woman dr I went to even alluded that my pain was the result of something not making a "connection with my body to brain". To me that sounded like telling me I was crazy. I think women drs who have not experienced painful period/ovulations/endo/PCOS, etc do not understand because they have their periods and they are not "bad". Just my opinion !
Just wondering if anyone else has had the same experience and whether or not you prefer a male or female gynocologist.

I have always preferred men to women drs. My dr currently is the most awesome man and dr that I know. I am really lucky to have found him and I am currently not moving from the state I live in because I don't want to lose him. We have a very good repore and he is gentle. I found that the female gyne's that I have seen are cold and callous and I just don't think they are as thorough. But I do know that there are some good ones out there but I just want a man.

I prefer a woman gyno. I have always been that way. I know men are nicer and more careing while they are down there but I can'r be touched like like that by a man. I think it has something to do with me being molested for 6 years when I was little. The only man that can touch me like that is my husband. That is my choice tho....always a woman. Have a great day!

I can't say I really care one way or the other, but my current gyno is male and I like him just fine. But, he's also the doctor I see for my PCOS so I expect him to be somewhat more knowledgeable and sympathetic, even just for a pelvic exam (and he is). I'm not always thrilled with having random men asking me about college while they do my breast exam, but at least he makes the whole thing quick and painless.

Personally, since this whole PCOS thing started I've had drs of every make and model unceremoniously ask me to drop my drawers. So whether it's a man or a woman doesn't bother me a jot. It's not a proper drs appointment if I'm not asked to get naked at some point. LOL. That being said I've had really good and really bad drs of both genders. My gyne now is male and he's lovely. I'm keeping my "official" residence at my father's house even though I haven't actually lived there in ages because I'm moving to another city for school but I want to be able to keep the gyne.

I've only been to a male gyno so I can't compare - I can get an appointment with him within 3 days, but any female gynos take weeks or even months. But I have always found him great and I wouldn't change

Wow, I just realized in all the years I've been seeing doctors, I've never had a male gyno!
I am really displeased with my recent now-ex gyno, but I don't blame her incompetence on being female. I've been examined by a couple of ER and GP docs that were men, and my only complaint is that they were slightly rougher than the women- they didn't seem to understand that when a woman is sore down there, you're not supposed to force anything. Your fingers/hand/whatever need to gently follow the contours of my body, darnit, not try to take the path you're insistent on taking! That being said, they were NOT gyno specialists, so I'm not meaning to knock the great male gynos out there. :-)

I FAR prefer male gyno's. I'm not even sure why. I just have this weird preconceived notion that female gyno's are more judgmental when they look at me or something. To each their own!

I have seen both male and female gynae's and it doesn't bother me seeing a male one, just as long as they are giving me the appropriate treatment for pcos - i don't mind.
