I can see that portion control is huge for me, even when I'm eating healthfully I eat way too much. | This sounds kinda terrible, but what I would probably end up doing in the same situation is using a 1/2 c of the rice for myself (which would be within the 30g carb allowance) and then trying to pawn the rest off on my husband *blush* |

My Mood: Points: 81,407.94 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 81,407.94 | I don't know why I'm getting all this anxiety about starting tomorrow. I'm totally prepared and have a good understanding of the IR diet. But I just don't really do diets, because I know I don't stick them....which is why I planned my food plan around what I eat anyway just balanced. I think I'm afraid of failing, and getting tempted by something. Ugh, I just have no confidence in my ability to be healthy I guess because I've been making poor choices for so long. Trying to put it out of head...I know exactly what I'm supposed to be eating tomorrow so I'll post back at the end of the day with what I ate....good or bad!

My Mood: Points: 14,765.04 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 14,765.04 | Bec, you are going to do just fine! The planning is the biggest part. Follow the guidelines, exercise, and you won't fail.
I'm refocussing myself tomorrow. A new week is always a fresh start. I'm going to really hit my exercise plan hard this week. I will be doing 60 minutes min of exercise a day this week -- between cardio and strength training. I have some new dvd's, and my trusty YMCA membership, so I'm revving it up a bit. I have slowed down/eased off my activity in the last few weeks, and can tell a difference in my body and how I feel emotionally/mentally. I get more done in a day, and feel happier when I'm active. So, here goes.
By the way, this recommitment to exercise was sparked by a 360 degree mirror in a changing room today. Let's just say it wasn''t pretty in there! LOL. I walked out, bought some new exercise clothes and headed home to the treadmill.
How is everyone doing? Ready for Monday? Oh, and almost a new thread too. We're nearly into April.

Points: 7,514.54 Bank: 10,115.71 Total Points: 17,630.25 | Bec: I understand being apprehensive about dieting. For all my 'go! go!' about the IR Diet, I'm doing 'not so well'. It's helped me a little to just focus on balancing one meal or snack at a time. If you fall off, so what? Everyone does at some point. The important thing is keeping your goal in mind (TTC, getting healthy, feeling better, even losing weight, etc.), knowing why that is so important to you, and making sure you make an effort to do better the next time. Maybe it would help lessen your anxiety if you reassure yourself that you don't have to completely eliminate anything? And if you get hungry you can always eat a snack every 2 hours as long as it's linked and balanced. welshgirl: Awesome exercise goals! I found it motivating the way you said, "Let's just say it wasn''t pretty in there! LOL. I walked out, bought some new exercise clothes and headed home to the treadmill." I've slipped up on my exercise and am feeling it too, I'm going to get back on the elliptical tomorrow.
Well, it's been an interesting week, anyway. My husband got the stomach flu on Thursday, so it changed our routine a little and I've used that as an excuse to not exercise. My food hasn't been so great, either, and today was also my husband's birthday so I've slipped a little with that. I was able to give away some of the cake I made to a friend, though, so I only have one small piece left for myself... less temptation. We also went out to breakfast this morning and I only ate 1/2 my hashbrowns! That's a big step for me since normally I'd eat them all, full or not.
Br: Denny's - 2 scrambled eggs, 2 sausage, 2 bacon, an english muffin and 1/2 serving of hashbrowns
S: 3 Dove dark chocolate pieces
S: 3 pineapple rings while making cake
D: 2 leftover balsamic chicken thighs, asparagus, rice, two bites of mashed potatoes (had to make sure they tasted okay), a piece of pineapple upside-down cake
And I'm feeling all the unlinked carbs... I have a massive headache and I'm tired and *****y.
Tomorrow's another day, though, and I'm going to cut out the junk and try to link and balance everything.
Goals for the week:
-) exercise 5 days this week
-) post here every day
-) no unlinked carbs |

on the "diet" thing... i prefer to think of this as a lifestyle change... it's something i hope/plan to continue even after i've lost the weight i want to lose....
'dieting' is so restrictive and for me establishes the wrong mind set.
i'm not always great at following some of these diets, but i do take a lot of the tricks/tips/methods with me as i move through life.... so i still use some ww strategies and SB foods even though i don't do those diets anymore...
happy monday all,

My Mood: Points: 81,407.94 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 81,407.94 | Tia, I'm trying to think of this as a lifestyle...it's the lifestyle I need to live in order to be healthy with my insulin resistance and pcos. But it's so hard not eating whatever I want to eat and not having to think about it. I really hope that it doesn't take too long before I start to feel like it's a lifestyle and comes naturally rather than feeling like I'm on a diet.
I think I've been having sugar/carb withdrawals today, I was really hungry mostly in the afternoon and craving donuts...things I don't normally eat, but I normally eat way more carbs...being conscious of not going over the 30 grams at each meal and linking them to protein has opened up my eyes to how many carbs I normally eat....no wonder I'm always so tired. Today was only day 1 and it was difficult. I didn't eat exactly what I had planned, I hope to do better tomorrow. Will be back to post everything I ate today.

you don't mention drinks... hopefully lots of water!
also -- not sure how early you're awake... but if you're up much before 8am you should try to eat an earlier bfast or snack... it may seem counter intuitive but waiting too long can throw the day off (kat carney also has an article posted on this somewhere)
with SB there is often an initial "flu" feeling the first two weeks, but it shouldn't be so pronounced with IR eating since you're not eliminating carbs to the same degree...
congrats on your first day!

I don't think I had enough water today, but when I drank it was only water throughout the day. I'm trying to stay off diet sodas.
I get up at 8:30am normally and start work at 10am...sounds nice lol but this will be changing very shortly I'll be up at 6:30am for school and work etc.
I found a store brand yogurt that's I think 13 grams carbs and 7 grams protein which is great.

Bec, you did well. Don't be afraid to eat a little more protein if you are hungry. For example, if you are hungry while fixing dinner, you could have some almonds, or a slice of cheese or something. Then it wouldn't cut into your carb allowance. Pat yourself on the back for a sucessful day one!
My day went well. I am sooooo sore. But I have set my new exercise goals, and am determined to keep them. I did cardio twice today, for a total of 65 minutes, and circuit training for 45. Last night I did 30 cardio, 30 circuit training. My muscles are screaming, but I'm happy! I CAN do 60 mins minimum a day. Exciting, in a this-might-just-do-me-in sort of way.
My food today was pretty good. Stayed in my calorie range and wasn't hungry.
Br: Balance bar
Sn 1: 3 Crackers with peanut butter
Lunch: Sauteed veges, 3 oz chicken breast, 15 baked chips, 2 Tbs ff
sour cream
Sn 2: Protein shake made with skim milk
Dinner: Sauteed veges, stewed tomatoes, 2 cutlets
Drank 128 oz of Water
1 Cup of Vanilla Coffee

Thanks for the tip, I'll try and eat protein when I'm really hungry, I was just craving bread all day today...sweet bread, like pastries or crescent rolls...God I sound like a drug addict but for carbs...I hope it goes away soon.

You could always check to see if one of your local stores has a fresh almond butter grinding machine. Fresh almond butter is tasty and is a nice change from PB. |

I'll look up the those crackers when I'm downstairs. I believe they are Breton, whole grain. I'll check for you. They are yummy, and lowish carb too. And they are a good size. Enough to get some protein on. I use natural pb on them. Cuts out some more sugar.
Back later.
