Has anyone been to a Dr. Virro at the Markham-Stouffville Health Centre. I have heard he is good, any opinions or experiences?
His website seems to focus mainly on IVF type treatments, I'm not at that stage yet, and can't afford it anyway - will he do simpler treatments as well?
I see his counterpart Dr.Pyselman and she is great...
My friend sees Dr Virro and has managed to squeeze two healthy kids out of him (she also has PCOS) and she has nothing but great things to say about him !
Good luck !
Amy

Currently I see a doctor downtown but the commute is becoming too much.
DH and I both work in Markham (at the same place) and heard that Markham had a fertility clinic.
Do I need a referral from my GP or can I call and make an appt. The best bet would probably to get my records from my current RE sent over, wouldn't you think.
I am excited. If you ladies could help me I would be sooooo happy. The drive is making me more emotional, although I love my doc so much am hesitant about switching.
Thanx
Jenn

I saw Dr. Pyselman as well and got two kids from her! She is a sweet heart. She also does the fertility clinic with Dr. Virro and they work hand in hand as they cover for each other. She is also an OB/GYN so will follow you once you're pg. She seemed up to par with her knowledge of PCOS and I received the standard meds for treating PCO and getting pregnant but she is also willing try different things etc. With my first pg, we had some financial problem with our insurance so she went to bat for me from the drug company and got me a months supply of injectables for free. She's a good advocate I find for her patients.
You will need a referral from your GP and I believe the wait list is about 4 months. The last time I was in the office I believe I heard Dr. Virro's receptionist say he wasn't taking new pts. But that was a few mths back.
I have seen him on occasion for things when Dr. P wasn't available. He is okay but not my cup of tea. He's a bit rougher and colder in my opinion but does give results from what I've heard.
I sent a note off to the clinic but maybe I will just call my GP and schedule an appt with her and get her to refer me to the clinic.
I also want to have more tests done. My RE now never did anything. She looked at the blood work my GP did and concurred that I had PCOS. I was never checked for Insulin resistance or had a fasting glucose, just normal blood for testosterone, estorgen and such.
Can I ask a couple questions to you??? How old are your kids now? When you did injectibles, with clomid? IUI? IVF?
Do they do cycle monitoring there or is it just hard core.
I have just done 1 month of clomid and off this month as the clinic is closed for monitoring. Did they monitor you on clomid. I know it worked for me cause I needed the trigger shot to make the egg drop, without the monitoring I never would have O'd.
I would love to talk more about this and your kids and struggle and how long it took you. Hope to hear from you soon.
Also if anyone else has any information on this clinic. I would love to hear from you.
Thanks to all who respond.
Jenn

They do it all there, all the monitoring (they have the bloodwork nurse right there) and all the support...
I adopted but in the early spring will be going back to TTC before adopting again.
As far as I know you DO need a referral.
Good Luck !

dd 1 was via injectables and IUI. I had tried Clomid/Met combos etc before and m/c on that then no luck after. It took about 3 yrs on/off of trying. the injectables I used were Puregon (pure FSH) and 1 Humegon along with the one to release the egg (sorry, can't remember the name!). They will teach you how to self inject if you want or they will do it for you daily. They do all the monitoring including blood, ultrasounds and then do call backs for drug dosage/counselling. The techs will also do other tests such as sonohysterograms etc. but you go over to the hospital for the HSG and sperm analysis.
Dr. P did bloodwork, u/s among other various tests and also tested my husband just in case prior to starting treatments.
dd 2 was Metformin and 25 mg clomid, 2nd try! No monitoring on Clomid, just basal body temping. But she takes a progesterone blood test at day 20 something I think to see you if ovulated.
BTW, I am not insulin resistant or diabetic but was still put on Metformin when TTC only.
I tried to post last week but the system wouldn't let me. Something about a lost thread. Seems to be working now.
Can I see Dr.P for clomid with monitoring? Or do I just see her for hard core once I want to go to injectibles or something higher.
I don't go to my GP until Jan 7th so I will have to see Dr.Redman for atleast one more month downtown.
I also sent a note over to their clinic but never received a response. Christmas I know!!!
I did the metformin for 5 months but was so sick, couldn't handle it. I have just completed one month of clomid and was monitored and had to have the pregnol shot to release the egg. December her office was closed at the end of the month when I would have needed the monitoring so we skipped December.
We are also pursuing adoption at the same time. We are receiving slack from my family which is disappointing and hurtful, but I want to be a Mommy and if they don't understand that then too bad for them.
Once again thanx for the response I will let you know if I get in to see Dr. P.
Jenn

When you first see Dr. P she will do a full work up, history etc on you. If she feels Clomid is worth a try again, then she will prescribe it to you. You can ask about being monitored while on it just to see how your levels are...she's pretty open to things. It's just a pain to be there daily at 6:30am or earlier to be first in line! Met used to make me sick as well, she dropped the dose down to 500 or 1000 for the first little while.
Her office is usually closed over the holidays as well, so you should try giving them a call in the New Year again. It's 905-472-7130...know it from memory by now!
BTW, if clomid doesn't work, I know there is another medication she has tried on others with PCO called Femara(SP?). It is a breast cancer drug actually. A girlfriend of mine got pg on it during her first cycle...also via Dr. P. I"m not sure what the criteria is for it as she never gave it to me.
Anyways, all the best to you and hope you have a happy new year!
Tracy
Actually I used to take Femera. AKA Letrozole. Other name.
I took it for a couple months it's just like clomid but not approved as a fertility drug. (therefore didn't have to pay). Didn't do anything for me though.
I have only taken clomid for one month and had to have the trigger shot to produce an egg so I am hoping only to do monitoring. I don't want to pay for something if it's not working.
As for the 6:30 time!! I wake now before 6:30 and have to leave the house by 7:00 to make it downtown before 9:00 so that my blood work makes it in for the sameday. I work around the corner from Markham hospital so it would be a great benefit for me to go there.
How are you doing?
Did the girls enjoy Chirstmas?
Mine was ok. It was hard watching my parents with my nephew, I want them to have more grandkids so badly it hurts.
Today is a bad day I believe AF is coming. due in 2 days.
Here we go again. Right.
Talk to you soon.
Jenn

Well went to doc this morning and she is going to call over and refer me to Dr. Pyselman. She doesn't know anything about the clinic but I told her the strain is getting to much to bear going downtown everytime.
This morning my temp dropped so I guess the witch is on her way now. Sucks I guess I will go for the clomid this month cause I may not get into see dr P for months just like Dr.Redman.
How are you ladies doing?
DNA did your son enjoy Christmas?
Did either of you make any new year's resolutions?
I did: lose weight. I am going to join Goodlife in the Oshawa centre. It's about 10 mins from me but it is a great gym and they have a great personal training session I am going to join.
I figure if I can put this much energy into trying to have a baby then I can put just as much into keeping myself healthy to not only have one, put carry one to term.
Hope all is well with you ladies.
Jenn

Hi Jenn,
I left you a pm where you can email me rather than posting here if you'd like. I find it easier as I'm always in email rather than here.
Hope to hear from you there.
Tracy
BTW, my resolution is to have more patience overall, start working out again/eat better and start reading again.
What did you do for new year's? We went to the Outback for dinner on the Eve and the day before, took the girls to First Night at the Skydome.
