I'm taking Desogen, which is the same as Marvelon. The good news is that so far it's seemed to work great--no noticeable side effects, and the periods have been predictable and relatively short and light. The bad news is that I probably won't be able to take it much longer. In the 3 months I've been on it, my blood pressure has gone up from 110/70 to 140/90! They tell me that's rare, though, and the Desogen has been great for regulating my cycle, so hopefully you just need a couple of months to adjust.
I don't want to mess around with high blood pressure, but I also would rather not go back on Provera (which had yucky side effects for me and my stomach). Have any of you had blood pressure issues on birth control? Were you able to find a pill that was safe, or did you have to go off estrogen altogether? From what I've read, desogestrel can raise BP, too, so maybe it's the combination of that and the estrogen that's affecting me. I guess I'll find out soon enough; I'm going back to the hospital next week for another check. |
