My name is Kristen and I'm 27 years old. On December 1st, I'll be marrying my soulmate. I was diagnosed with PCOS in April of this year and have been struggling with the symptoms and weight issues since I was 14.
After a long battle with the insurance company, they've decided to cover my Meridia and I couldn't be happier. I just started taking it yesterday and feel wonderful so far. I definitely feel the medication working to suppress my appetite and have little to no appetite at all. It's amazing. I plan on starting a low carb/low calorie diet on Monday, so hopefully that will help with my weight loss as well.

Well...I was supposed to start Meridia, BUT I am on Lexapro, and the pharmacist said......."not so much" on taking the two together. SO, be very careful that what you are taking is okay to take with Meridia.
When I was first prescribed Meridia I was on Cymbalta, but have recently switched to Lexapro.....just wanted to let you know that Meridia (like many other medications) is not very compatible with other medications.

I currently take Meridia.
My doctor suggested I try it after I complained about the side effects of Xenical/Orlestat.
I lost about 25-30 pounds(size 16 to a 12) over the last few months and hope to lose about 25 more before next summer.
It's not so much about the weight loss but I like not being hungry all the time.
I'm well aware of the interactions between Meridia and a lot of anti-depressants. My doctor would not prescribe it to me until I was completely off of my Zoloft. I'm doing really well on the Meridia and hope to be able to continue to lose weight.

Hello all,
It's been quite some time since i've visited the board. Hubby and I have decided to go childfree and now i'm on to the next part of this journey and that's losing the extra half of me that i've gained through the years.
I'm currently 280 lbs and would love to just get under the 200. Obviously getting smaller would be even greater but for now the goal weight is 199, lol.
Today I had the Meridia prescription filled and will start it tomorrow morning. The pharmacist told me to take it in the morning so it hopefully would not interfere with sleeping at night.
I'm looking forward to sharing this journey with all of you!

Is meridia new? I thought this drug was pulled off the market???
Just curious...
I've been on Meridia for about two months and I have lost 24 pounds. I LOVE IT!!!! Every diet I have ever been on failed because I could not beat the relentless cravings. I'm a terrible emotional eater and any type of stress would trigger a major carb fest! Meridia has entirely eliminated the cravings. I feel like a new person...actully, I finally feel like a normal person. My mood is better, I sleep better and since I don't really have an appetite for anything, I basically eat when I'm hungry and since nothing really sounds "to die for", I just eat the healthy stuff. In a weird way, I kind of miss craving something because it just tastes so good once you eat it. Its kind of taken the enjoyment out of eating (if that makes any sense?). However, the trade off is worth it. I feel in control, I'm saving a ton of money (I was a major fast food junkie) and groceries are lasting a lot longer because I'm not scarfing them down the minute they make it from the trunk of my car to my kitchen counter and I am finding enjoyment in other areas of my life that I was too busy eating (and then feeling sick, bloated, depressed and tired afterwards) to notice before. Another HUGE bonus is that the guilt is gone. I used to beat myself up about what I ate and feel so guilty and angry at my self for failing yet another attempt at dieting. I'm not embarassed anymore when I go to restaurants because I get grilled chicken sandwiches and side salads (which is something I never did!) instead of the chicken finger platter with the extra large heaping side of seasoned fries. I am not an eating machine anymore! Can you tell that I really like Meridia?...lol
My doctor said he will only keep me on it for about six months or so (not longer than a year). Its there to help get things started and lose enough weight and gain enough energy to become more active. I am exercising more...just not enough yet.
When I started Meridia, I was on the cusp of size 24...now I'm fitting comfortable in my size 18 jeans (I have jeans in size 12 to 24...lol).
I know people respond differently to medication. I happened to have responded to Meridia very well. My doctor was very candid with me about the unknowns of Meridia. It hasn't been on the market very long (less than ten years which is not that long in drug years) and there are not very many studies out there. It is considered a controlled substance and there is potential of becoming dependent. It increases your risk of high blood pressure and I have to go to my doctor for monthly blood pressure checks. My BP runs pretty low and so far it has not raised it at all. It is also unknown if it has any effects if you become pregnant. I haven't had a "natural" period since I was 13. All my periods have been induced either through BCP, provera or prometrium. After I lost about 10 llbs, I actully had a period! I was totally dumbfounded. Since I'm not trying to get pregnant, after I had that period, I went back to my doctor and now I'm on Yasmin (which isn't as fabulous as the Meridia but I'm going to give it some more time).
Anyway, I didn't mean to make this post so long. But, if anyone else out there wants to keep in touch it would be great to know how others are doing as well.
My Endo recommended Meridia, I'm getting the prescription filled, but I'm averse to putting unnecessary medications in my body... side effects? Concerns? Successes? What else have you changed?
