I did some searching on PCOS and depression and collected about 65 study references. Many of the studies are not specifically about PCOS, but PCOS features, like insulin resistance, and their association with mood.
One of my objectives was that I wanted support for the idea that treating PCOS can help treat depression. I don't think many doctors understand that or appreciate the connection between depression and PCOS.
I included the abstracts and bolded the good parts to hopefully make it easy to just scroll down and read the highlights.
mary...woah...that is a very through finding you put together- i dont even know if i can absorb it all in one sitting- very interesting though...i am wondering if i need to go on something for depression or if after a few months on BCP my depression may get less...what are you taking right now for medications?

I was on Effexor, but not anymore. I think it helped at the time since I was worse back then. I take most of the things on my web page actually. But, I don't talk about it on my page because I don't think anyone should just copy me, and also you might think I was crazy...

That is really helpful, the person I am seeing at the moment via the mental health team was going to try and find something on PCOS / Mood / Depression so this will be ideal for me to give to her when I go later this month. Thanks so much for that it's really helpful!

This is very interesting. I have been diagnosed with dep/anx for 13years but lately have been having manic episodes. I never even considered a link with pcos.

What a relief! Thank you for the insight and link - I thought I was going crazy with these mood swings - hopefully in time they will go away - after all I'm only a week into being diagnosed. kudos!
I found this yesterday and thought it might be of interest. I was going to just take this to my GP and Endo but then I came here and found your research so I'm going to print it off and take it to them instead. Thanks very much for sharing the research.
Thank you thank you, I am a firm believer that PCOS and depression are deeply connected. Have you ever experienced anger, hate and even violence during times when levels are really out of wack??? I was recently diagnosed "officially" and recently I turned into a monster for about 3 days. I have been depressed before but the anger and violence is REALLY unlike me - even my therapist was concerned. I have since had a visit from AF after 8 months and the anger subsided, but I wonder. I just started Yas and Metformin today I hope it helps.
