I had read it before but I picked up the new revised edition which was just put out in 2007. Does anybody know what is revised in it? I am hoping I can spot it as I go along.
By the way someone here was saying that you have to eat low-fat everything. That's actually one of the diet misconceptions that they tell you to cross out, that you have to eat a low-fat diet. So you may want to go back and read that list again. I have not gotten to the part yet where they tell you what fats TO eat though.

My Mood: Points: 12,751.67 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 12,751.67 | Hey Misty, glad you are with us! I think the 2007 edition has more fast food info in the back. Beyond that, I'm not sure, since I haven't read the earlier edition. I'll have to go back and see what they say about low-fat. But I think they actually are proponents of eating the lower fat versions of dairy products etc. It contradicted what I'd read in other books, if I'm remembering correctly. I do somethings lfat, and others full.
Hope everyone is having a great day! The weekend is nearly here.
Here's my summary for the day (trying to be a more faithful logger of my food).
Brfst: 2 egg omelet w ricotta cheese
Sn1: Protein shake
Lunch: Chicken breast, brussel sprouts, raw carrots, cream cheese
Sn2: Kiwi and almonds
Dinner: Whole grain toast, natural pbutter, soymilk
100 oz water
4 cups herbal tea
Cals= 1248 (I'm tracking them again to make sure I am staying in the range I need to be in.)
Exercise= 2 hours 15 mins (Cardio in the a.m. and strength training p.m workout)
See ya all tomorrow.
MrsR where are you?
Laura

My Mood: Points: 651.72 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 651.72 | Though that I would share with you what I am doing to help myself to stay on linking and balancing. My dh bought me 2 tinkerbell watches and I have to lose 10 lbs to get the first and another 10 to get the second. I have picutres of both of them on my fridge so that I have to look at them before I open the fridge. I think is what I am going to eat worth those watches...the watches win....only have 2 more lbs before I get the first watch.
Also yesterday as I was driving bus one of my students tried to get my goat and make me upset...I thought of mater in cars and heard him saying MA DANG and I"M HAPPIER THAN A TORNADO IN A TRAILER PARK...I just started laughing and the student could not figure out why...an inside joke for me. It helped me get through that run...LOL.
I have been reading the messages and they help me so much. Thank you all. |

Yes you guys are right, they recommend low-fat dairy and meat. Are any of you having success with using full-fat milk and/or cheese? Maybe limiting your portion a little more? I ask because we actually raise dairy goats for milk, and it's impractical to try to skim the fat from it, as it doesn't rise the way it does with cow's milk. I can't really justify buying my own milk, BUT I don't really drink that much of it. I am thinking that if I use it once a day to link, then I will be fine with it being full-fat. Does that sound OK?
Anyhow, I have read the chapter on linking, and I'm going to stop here and link for a week. Then I will read about balancing and then add that. Does that sound OK?
Here is my breakfast. Did I link it OK?
Whole wheat French toast
2 small slices crispy, drained bacon
1 tbsp maple syrup (we don't have any sugar-free, I used a lot less than usual)
Coffee
I think that the carbs in the bread and syrup are linked by the egg and milk in the French toast and the bacon. Did I do OK? Again I'm not worrying about balancing yet.

So I don't use low fat cheese. I just can't get past the taste. I do use 1% milk in all my cooking, but that's because DH prefers 1%. (I can't drink milk so it's not a big concern for me.) I'm considering soy milk at the moment. I tried a few months ago, but the texture really put me off so we'll see.
I'm still losing weight steadily, even with the full fat cheese, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. I just make sure to limit my portion sizes.

My Mood: Points: 12,751.67 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 12,751.67 | Drac: Congrats on the 2 more pounds. You are rockin, girl!
Angel: Glad you have motivation. I'm all for fun prizes along the way. Whatever keeps us going at the journey we are on is fantastic. You'll have to show us a picture of your skinny wrist in a tink watch!
Erigby: This diet certainly is worth trying. A lot of us have had success on it. For me, the linking and balancing really seems to work. And since you've already been restricting cals, I think you will find a certain freedom in this eating plan. The guidelines make sense once you've read about how sugar affects our body. I think you are going to be pleased with your purchase of the book. And we are glad you are here!
Farmgrrl: I don't use all low fat items myself. Some, but not all. And I have lost before using whole dairy choices. Before my last pregnancy I was doing something similar (hadn't read this book yet -- so it was a self-devised plan), and I ate low carb, with whole dairy products. I lost well. I just made sure that my portions were small, and it was fine. I was thinking this week that I might switch back to a few more whole milk things.
And as for your breakfast, it would be hard for us to say if you balanced it properly or not, without knowing exact amounts of what was in your one piece of french toast (did it have a full egg, how much milk etc.). But you did link proteins with your carbs, and that is what they ask you to do as a first step. You are on the right track. Keep it up!
As for me, today is my one rest day a week for workouts. And on Saturday our family has a big meal together. I promised them at the start of this that Sat. lunches would be a time when I wouldn't obsess over calories, carbs etc. That we'd have what we wanted that meal, and I'd simply enjoy it. This isn't something they prescribe in the book. And I know it doesn't work well for some people. But knowing that one time a week I can enjoy a treat helps me stay on plan the rest of the week. And that being said, I generally end up eating fairly healthfully anyway. LOLOL. So much of this is phsychological, isn't it.
Todays food so far:
Brfst: 1 slice wh grain toast, 1 tbsp natural pbutter
Sn1: Protein drink, made with soymilk
Lunch: Spinach pasta, Tofu sauce w steamed veggies and cheese, 1/2 slice of homemade wh wheat bread
Sn2: 1/2 apple, herbal tea
Dinner: not sure yet
Hope you all are having a great Saturday.
Laura

My Mood: Points: 9,301.17 Bank: 15,882.36 Total Points: 25,183.53 | Well I skipped lunch today, which was a big mistake. I had some beef jerky as a snack, then had a banana. Then a couple hours later I had some baked chips with spinach dip (I measured out 1 serving of each). The problem is I have been grabbing a chip or two every time I walk in the kitchen. Ugh. I'm trying to analyze what is drawing me to them but it's the salt, I think.

My Mood: Points: 2,939.24 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,939.24 | So an hour ago, I finished my first 60 minute workout. Holy cow! I'm used to 45 minutes so I thought, "Okay, self, let's see how far we can go." Once I got to 55 minutes, I decided to just go for it. I'm seriously motivated to bust through this weight loss plateau I've reached. Here's hoping 60 minute cardio/strength training workouts 5-6 times a week are the answer...

I think that we it in our head that we can only do a certain amount of time, or certain type of exercise. We're capable of more than we think! Keep pushing and challenging yourself. Doesn't it feel good to pass the time you've previously done?
Farmgrrl: Hands out of the chip bowl. LOL. I tell you, I am so drawn to chips. I just can't have them out, or I'll nibble all day. I'm sure that skipping a meal made it harder to resist too. Don't forget to eat meals!
See you all tomorrow!

My Mood: Points: 158.29 Bank: 537.93 Total Points: 696.22 | Hi everyone I need to get the book, I had the old edition except with a new addition in the family I lost it. I did get the Jillian Michaels book since it gives a lot of techniques and advice especially with willpower and excersice- I will tell you how it turns out.
Ok now some great news. I have lost almost all of my preggy weight- my son will be 9 wks on monday. Yeah me!!! My plan so far is that I watch my carbs, try to eat low glycemic foods, exersice 4-5x's a week- 60 mins. each, chase after my two year old and feed my 2 month old, and take my met. So far it is working. I can't cut my calories to 1200-1300 since it seems to stop my milk supply, but 1800 seems pretty good.
Farmgrrl: I eat about 50/50 lowfat and whole fat foods since I like some one way and others another. It works fine for me.
Yeah to everyone that is losing weight, I am sure you all are looking hot in your new bodies.

1 egg over-easy
1 slice whole wheat toast
1/4 cup salsa
Milk in my coffee
Do I have to count the salsa as a carb? Did I have enough protein to call it linking? Again I'm not doing balancing yet.
I planned my midmorning snack already -- 1/2 cup lowfat plain yogurt with 1/2 cup Kashi cereal and 1 tsp jam. What do you think?
