Those who have been successful on this diet......
Do you watch your fat intake? Is this a low fat diet? I thought I read somewhere on this board that you have to keep the fat intake low for this diet to work.
Is that true?

Joyful: you have to make sure that it is the good fats that ure body needs like fish oils, olive oils and etc.....the bad fats are the animal fats and the regular lard and that BAD fat...like ure chesse make sure it is low-fat ure yogurt and etc...mostly all dairy has to be low-fat just make sure ure fat intake is not more than 50 mg a day...ure body needs at least 17 grams of fat daily... I take Omega 3 & 6, since I dont like fish these are essential fats that we need...Just choose low-fat and fat free items... PLUS, ure mean has too be the leanest u can find.....u will get a hang of it sooner or later.....email me if u have more ?'s....Or buy the Insulin-resistant diet book it is very helpful...... good luck to you.........

Default Perfectionist.

This is the first time I've ever posted here.. I think it's great that we can all talk about our frustrations on this board.

I'm 25 years old. I was diagnosed with PCOS at 16, at which point I weight around 260. I'm 5'8." Life obviously wasn't easy for a high school girl who weighed that much. By the time I went to college (after started metformin, spironalactone, major dieting and literally working my ass off), I weighed around 160.

I now weigh somewhere around 140 (it's really tough for me to look at a scale, so I don't) and am a size 4-6. However, I find myself OBSESSED with getting thinner. I've struggled with eating disorders in the past, and think I'm now relatively healthy, but I'm really tired of not seeing exactly what I want to in the mirror. I'm currently obsessed with the idea of getting plastic surgery (mostly to remove excess skin), I'm in the middle of laser hair removal, and I work out 5-6 times a week.

My question is more to do with working out. I find that as I work out, I actually get bigger. My legs build muscle, and my jeans DO NOT FIT. It frustrates me to no end. I do cardio mixed with weights, more or less--about 45 minutes 5 times a week.

If anyone could share the workouts they've done that have helped them SLIM down, I'd love to hear. I know exactly how frustrating this all is.. and I find myself even more frustrated that now, 120 pounds later, I still feel the same insecurities.

I'd love to hear your thoughts.....

ok Kristen:
u are building muscle because of all the extra testostrone that we PCOS suffers have! Dont use heavy weights....and dont do cardio for more than 30-40 minutes....its BAD for us because instead of it making us lose weight it increases our IR in some way....Ask someone in ure gym if they have a metabolic activity test and take it ! Because TOO MUCH exercise actually makes us FATTER!!!! are u linking foods right? TOO MUCH PROTEIN is BADDDDDDDDD too...u have to stick with linking your foods......And as for the size 4-6? GIRL what! I wish I was that size u should be very proud that u are this size and stop girly...not unless u want to hit ure BMI for your age and height ask the trainer their about that but DON"T lose anymore I am sure u LOOK wonderful......AND the loose skin try first a little bit of weights but low weights......I have that too and the suave lotion for firming skin is making that less for me...but goood luck and just realize that what u think is just all in your mind girly u are jsut find being a 4-6!!!!!God Bless You and keep u safe!!!!

Oh my gosh. I just bought the book. I've read about 1/2 of it and I'm a bit overwhelmed! I know that like any other diet I've done (Weight Watchers primarily) I will figure it out and it will become second nature, but right now I'm going to have to have that booked chained to my wrist. I haven't started yet (I just made a batch of chocolate chip cookies that I need to make disappear first) but I think this will be a great program for me. I'm still trying to figure out this sight so I don't have a personal signature or anything yet- I'll get there!

Kristen,

Try Slim in 6. It's a killer work out, but it seriously slims your body. It's what's helping me melt fat and tone my body. I'm noticing a huge difference in my body--and I've only been doing the SI6 for about two weeks. I'm down 2 pants sizes. The scale has only gone down 13 pounds but I'm totally reshaping my body. A lot of cysters have given SI6 a go and rave about it. Try it out!

Laura - I found my book, but like Sara and I'm overwhelmed. I planning on beginning when DH and I get back from Chicago. ARG! I'm also going to try to do my TurboJam in the morning instead of after work since I'm so tired when I get home.

Laura (Dracula) - Thanks for your sample of a day in the life of IR! I think it's great becaus I can get an idea of things to eat.

You girls are the best! I've kind of been thinking that I'm working out TOO much (especially with weights). I've heard great things about slim in 6 and so I'll definitely try that. Have any of you tried/had results with pilates?

Can I ask where you are getting your information from? It does not sound right to me.
For some good information read this. PICK UP WEIGHTS! Aerobic exercise alone does not affect insulin resistance...

I've actually heard this too, but I've never been able to find documentation to back it up. Where did you find the info, Dracula?

I am living proof of what high testosterone and weight lifting can do to a girl. I weigh a good 30lbs more than even my docs would speculate due to my muscle mass. My obgyn said this is common in women with PCOS and high testosterone who lift weights.

Your going to weigh more then your supposed to when you lift weights, regardless.
Yes you could weigh a bit more then if you did not have PCOS but weight lifting does help with IR too. You just can't discount it for everyone.
