Weighing in just once a week will show a bigger loss on the scale because you haven't been tracking it in little tiny incraments all week. For me though, seeing the tiny little bits drop off each day help me stay on track. That's just me though... |

My Mood: Points: 1,434.51 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,434.51 | Hello fellow losers (and those who are about to become losers)!!!
This week I lost 1.2 lbs. I am happy about it, but I do wish it were a bit more. For those who were wondering, yes, last week was my first week, hence the 5 lb weight loss.
Last week I felt a little less successful than the first week though, so I'm hoping I will do better this week! This week, my goal is to up my activity, and I plan to walk to my ww meeting on Saturday, which is probably about a mile away (maybe a little less).
Go girls go!

My Mood: Points: 15,660.43 Bank: 48,487.93 Total Points: 64,148.36 | Stacie ~ I have gotten to where I only weigh myself once a week. When I first started losing weight, I weighed myself every day. For me this wasn't such a good thing because your weight fluctuates during the week. I would way myself and realize that I had gained 3 pounds over night. Of course, this was all water weight and by the end of the week it evened itself out and I would have actually lost weight. It was too stressful to weigh myself every day. Occasionally, I weigh my self towards the middle of the week, but generally I stick to once a week.
Mermaid ~ Congratulations on the weight loss. I know that losing 1.2 pounds doesn't seem like a lot, especially if you lost 5 pounds the week before, but believe me it adds up. Also, if you get in some exercise you might actually gain a few pounds initially. This is because you are building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. Even though the scale may be going up, you will be losing inches. Good luck!

Jess—Planning is always key for me, but I’m like you with not wanting to eat what I plan. I found that, as long as I had choices, it wasn’t so bad. So, instead of making a strict meal plan for the day, I give myself 2 options for each meal or snack. I just keep that stuff handy in the house or at my desk at work. For example, today I brought beans and rice for lunch, but I can always have Subway if that doesn’t sound good. I also make a dinner plan for the week, but I don’t always stick to the days of the week I plan the dinner for. See my response to Sarah below about using extra points- using them doesn’t always mean slower losses- for me it’s the opposite.
Sarah—I use every point available to me. That includes all my WAPs and APs. I lose slowly, BUT I wasn’t losing anything when I tried using just my daily points. Sometimes I even go over my WAPs and end up having big losses! Try using them and see what happens. In my experience I’ve found that I lose faster when I’m using all my points. Don’t know why, but my body seems to like the extra fuel.
Stacie- Welcome! I weigh daily at home, but I only count my Wednesday weigh-in. Some people can’t handle weighing every day because they’re so wrapped up in the scale they get disappointed with every fluxuation. Personally, I know that weight fluctuates from day to day, hour to hour for many reasons so it doesn’t bother me. I have a worse problem when I try to weigh only weekly because it stresses me out not having any clue! Lol- Weighing every day also keeps me on track.
Mermaid—Try to remember that WW is not The Biggest Loser WW recommends only losing ½ lb-2 lbs per week for a healthy loss. Research has shown that losing slower means you’re more likely to keep the weight off in the long run. You’re doing great.
I’m surprised at the number of people here who don’t use their “extra” points. I use all of mine and still lose consistently. Not huge losses, but when I was just using dailys (when I started WW) I wasn’t losing anything at all! Using my extra points helps me not feel deprived and it’s the one thing that has kept me from giving up. I’ve given up on every other program I’ve ever tried within 2 months. I’ve been with WW now for 7 months now-
So, I’m a little mad at myself. I weigh every day and I was 3 lbs down on Friday and Saturday . . I lost my mind on Sunday (pizza and beer- need I say more?) and this morning I was 4 lbs heavier than on Friday. I know it was probably sodium so I’m drinking extra water today and making sure I get a ton of fiber (I usually do anyway). Hopefully I’ll be back to “normal” on Wednesday which is my official weigh-in day. I only need to lose 1.2 lbs to reach my 10%!!!!

I've been wondering about this for a while, but since you brought it up...what do you/did you do with the leftovers?
We all know that portion sizes you get when you're out to eat are too big. Some stuff makes really crappy left overs though....plus I'm really bad about eating leftovers. Do you just leave the extra there or are you good about taking them home & eating it later? Sometimes I get conflicted...
Obviously it doesn't make sense to stuff yourself for the sake of clearing your plate. But at the same time I feel guilty about wasting money/food. Sometimes I wish places wouldn't be so weird about adults ordering off the kids menu! | I left it there, I know if I took it home I would have ate all of it! My thought is my health isn't worth worrying about the waste of the money. Maybe you could ask them to cut your portion in half before they bring it out? Quote:

My Mood: Points: 17,017.29 Bank: 107,967.05 Total Points: 124,984.33 | I have a question about points....
The lunch meat I use is 1 pt for 6 slices of chicken breast. I used the points slider thingie using the serving size for a single serving. Anyway...I use 4 slices, not 6. Would you count that as 1 pt or 0? Also, if a serving of something comes up as 0 pts (like....carrots) even if you wanted to eat...5 servings would it still be 0 pts? I know 5 servings may be a little extreme! But what I'm asking is if something is 0 pts for a serving, is it always 0 pts no matter how much of it you eat?
I find myself making the most boring dinners because it's easier to calculate. Some things are such a pain to figure out the entire points for each ingredient, multiply it by the number of servings you're using, then making the recipe...then dividing it by how many servings the meal makes.
Maybe I'm just lazy??! It'll probably get easier over time though. I pretty much know how many points for home made tacos...so I'm sure I'll learn them for other recipes too.
Jilconmom--I agree. I can see how core would be much better because it limits carbs. I think I'll probably switch to it at some point.
I have a REALLY hard time making new routines (which actually makes me feel ridiculous because I'm an adult for Pete's sake!) so I think I'm going to stick with counting points for now & when I get used to it I'll move into Core. |

My Mood: Points: 324.64 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 324.64 | Jess-As far as the 0pts goes, I think you are supposed to take the nutritional values and multiply them by the number of servings to give you the total nutritional value. Then use the points finder to the total number of points. That is my understanding of how this works.
Have you ever used the recipe builder on the etools? This helps you modify your favorite recipes to make them a little healthier so you don't have to eat baked chicken, brown rice and steamed veggies for dinner everynight. This helped me a lot b/c I have two picky eaters in my house which makes it very difficult to eat healthy. If it was up to them it would be pizza and macaroni and cheese everynight.
Hope this helps!

As far as figuring out points in recipes/foods, you'll get the hang of it.
