Points: 362.05 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 362.05 | maybe diagnosed? Last month I went for my annual exam with a new doctor (I moved to california a few months ago) and she told me I had PCOS pretty much just by talking to me and looking at me. I carry my weight in my abdomen for sure, and we talked about my irregular periods, the facial hair that I have on what I call my "chinneck"- not quite my chin, not quite my neck-, how I have had a VERY hard time losing weight...and she just told me that I had PCOS. Now I'm wondering if she should have done some other tests or something? She put me on the pill, which I am not excited about at all. I am definitely someone who prefers herbal/natural treatments. But I took her advice. I felt my period coming on for a few weeks, it didn't come, so she told me to just start the pills, which I did on the 6th. A few hours later, I got my period. And today, on the 16th, I STILL HAVE IT! The worst cramps ever (and I usually get pretty bad cramps), bleeding heavy, just awful. I have never had a period over 6 days. I am just so tired of this madness! I'm tempted to just stop taking the pills, even though it's only been 10 days. Ugh- thoughts? Before I go binge on a box of oreos..I've been resisting THAT urge for days! |

My Mood: Points: 88.24 Bank: 359.75 Total Points: 447.99 | Mas, hello fellow newbie! I think you'll find all the info you need here!
I would personally ask the doc for the CD3 bloodwork to confirm the diagnosis, if nothing else. There are other reasons that could account for your symptoms, and they might need treatment (not saying it doesn't certainly sound like PCOS, but still!). Also, you should really be aware of all the things the pill can do to you----the effects are sometimes permanent and irreversible, like the drying-up of your cervical crypts (the part that makes the cervical fluid that's necessary for sperm to survive in your uterus). You should pick up the book "Taking Charge Of Your Fertility" for more info on that, and general women's health as well.
Even if it is just PCOS, and even if you don't want to get pregnant right now, there are health issue that go along with PCOS that you should start learning to deal with now, like optimal nutrition and exercise. I'm dealing with over a decade of poor eating habits that I now have to break, and quickly if I want to have a kid any time soon! It's hard to give up the Coca-cola!
Definitely read the nutrition section of this forum, and you might want to check out the alternative remedies section as well. Don't ever just take your doc's word for it!
Hope to see you around here! Good luck! |
