Question This maybe a stupid question, but i was just wondering.

Well, ok this maybe dumb, but, If our bodies, (having pcos) are reacting like we are in menopause, why, cant they treat it with hormone replacement therapy? i dont know but i have always wondered that...I asked my one doctor just kinda laughed when i asked that and didnt give me anykind of response, needless to say, i didnt go back to see him....

Your doc laughed at you? That sucks...maybe because he never thought about it? haha. It seems like it should be an easy cure huh? But from what I remember when I was researching it, PCOS is not curable. SUCKS! Oh and no question is ever a stupid one . It's actually a smart one!!!

I agree.. that is a good question. As far as your doctor just laughing.. I have one of those doctors as well....I think us ladies with PCOS read more books and articles on the subject than those doctors do!!!! Please post if you ever learn more about that thought- I will do the same. I will ask my doctor when I go back!

Well, I don't think it's a bad question at all, really.

First of all, PCOS is actually rather different than menopause, though there are some similarities. But they are two different things, and you don't treat them the same way.

However, if you use BCPs or metformin, or spiro, or other drugs to treat your hormonal imbalance with PCOS, you are really doing something quite similar to what women do with HRT in menopause. Essentially, in both cases, you are using medications to try to correct hormonal imbalances. So the idea you had wasn't a bad one at all, you just needed to flesh it out with appropriate and correct details.

Thank you for your responses, Yes my doctor actually laughed at me, I was very humilated and felt stupid. I sometimes feel the same way, I dont think some doctors think that this an important that the doctors should learn more on these types of issues, family doctors and exspecially obgyn's, and i dont think that they do, I think that sometimes they dont take PCOS as a serious condition. I am hoping to beable to find the support, i need, and hopefully find a way that may help me on my way of being a mom....

I'd fire that Doctor for that. I've been through too many lousy ones to take any crap anymore. I am soooo determined to have the Doctor work with me, not be the one to make the decisions about my body. (OK, I do have just a wee bit of hostility here!)
