I created a similar post in the Hair Loss forum. I thought the link below had some interesting information. I don't know that iron deficiency has anything to do with PCOS, but some of the symptoms we blame on PCOS might be caused by iron deficiency instead.
I know my doctor told me my ferritin level was 14 - and that was fine. Little did I know that the medical community generally feels that anything below 40 should be considered iron deficient.
I also know that I had been taking armour thyroid for a few years, and when I changed doctors he switched me to levoxyl. Now, with neither armour nor levoxyl did I feel any better nor did my BBTs ever get above 98. I can't remember what my TSH was. My last TSH was 3.96 - but I stopped taking my thyroid meds because I didn't feel as if they were doing anything for me. Maybe once I get my iron levels back to normal I can start working on my thyroid again!
Good grief! We definitely have to be our own health detectives and advocates!
