Default AN means IR??

hey all,

dont knw if this is the right forum for this post, but here it is..
after reading some posts today, i just discovered my dark patches of skin (Acanthosis Nigricans) are due to PCOS not much though, very very little on the back of my neck but my groin area is really dark and i just hate it. well, my question is, all these days i thought i wasn't insulin resistant, mainly because my obgyn said so after looking at my blood test results when diagnosed with PCOS last month and also because i am just 10 pounds overweight. so does having AN mean i am IR and have type-2 diabetes?? i am confused and worried. as if 2 years of continuous AF isn't enough, i discover new problems with my body/health each day! sometimes i am so depressed.

I thought it was normally associated with IR ... but IR does not mean you have type-2. It can mean you are at greater risk for it.

If your bloodwork is not showing IR, but you are showing signs of IR, then either you have it, and "lab normal" is not normal for you, or your lab work could be being read incorrectly. Lab normal tends to give anything up to 20 or so as a normal fasting insulin but a lot of sources I have read said it should be under 10, ideally 6.

Here is an article on AN

http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologi...s_nigrica.html

that seems to say it is nearly always connected with IR though in rare cases it can mean a tumor of some sort. If you have other signs of PCOS, I would think that's probably not the case.
