Rosie- I started out filling up a 24W and wearing a 2x or sometimes even 3x shirt. Now I am wearing a Regular size 16 or occasionally 14 pant and size L or XL top. I think when I get to my goal I will probably be a size 10 or 12 (I am 5'9").

Rosie- No, this is most definitely not shakes or soups! I eat normal food from the grocery store and we eat out (more than we should, honestly!). You may be thinking of Medifast, which is a liquid diet advertised in magazines.
This is a physician monitored plan that is run through local WL clinics. It is calorie controlled, low fat, and low carb. The focus is on lean protein, vegetables, moderate fruits, etc. I get around 700 protein calories per day and in addition to that eat 2-4 servings of fruits and veggies (fruits are limited though because of the sugar). LOTS of water and non-caloric beverages. I also make sure to get several servings of nuts, full fat salad dressing or olive oil every week to protect my gall bladder. Exercise 3-4 days per week. On the days I exercise I increase my calories to replace those I am burning.
When I reach my goal weight, my calories and carbs will be increased as the physician monitors me and it's somewhat trial and error at that point to see what my body needs to maintain but not gain. Most people in maintenance consume around 1800 calories per day and keep their carbs around 50-80grams with a focus on whole grains and complex carbs. Pretty much the way we're "supposed" to eat according to healthy guidelines! It's been an awesome program that has re-taught me how to eat and what my body needs to be healthy.
My bloodwork is AWESOME. My PCP says that in another 3-5 pounds she'll take me off Metformin completely because my bloodwork shows that I am no longer even borderline insulin resistant! Woohoo! This is not a "quick fix" plan, it is a total lifestyle overhaul and for me, it's been a huge blessing.
