Exclamation Medical Induction Question...Need answers ASAP!!

Hey ladies. Just a quick question.

I am supposed to be induced this Tuesday. The reason for the induction is because my doctor(s) swore up and down that I was going to develop pre-eclampsia. I have made it to 38 weeks and 1 day, and so far...no signs of pre-e. My doctors have readily admitted that they made a BIG mistake. Anyway, the induction is still set and as of yesterday I was measuring with 0 dilation and 0 effacement. (At a previous visit, I was 1 cm and 50%...didn't know your cervix could change its mind...)

Have any of you been induced and not ready?? If so, what was the outcome (How long was labor, did it end in c-section??) I am not so worried about pain, as I am about just sitting in the hospital for hours and hours when my body isn't ready.

I would like to cancel the induction, but, my mom is here for it (we live 2500 miles apart) and she has to get back the week after. So, that isn't an option. I just need to hear how it was for others.

Thanks, ladies!!

I was induced at 37 weeks and my body was showing no signs of being ready. However, I entered the hospital at 7pm Sunday night, had my water broken by noon the next day, started hard labor shortly after, and my son was born by 11:30 Monday night. It went WAAAAY more quickly than I thought it would. But, I think I got lucky. A few months ago, two of my friends went in for inductions. One was sent home three different times before she had the baby. The other was never sent home because she was overdue (41 weeks or so) but it still took three or four days for her to have the baby.
Really, it can go either way. But just keep your spirits up and hopefully things will go well for you. GL!

My induction lasted three days. I was 37w2d and was 50% effaced and 1cm dilated when I went into the hospital. By the third day I had progressed enough for my water to be broken. Once that happened, I delivered my daughter about 4 hours later.

Good Luck!

Thanks, momma. I figured that everyone is going to be different. I just hope my body reacts quickly to the gel, and things soften up quickly. I am trying to stay positive and hoping that once it softens, they will break my water, crank up the pitocin and things will go smooth. I know my doctor stated he will NOT release me once the gel is placed. :-( So, at least I know once I am there...baby will be sometime thereafter. Thank you!!

The only thing to think about is the high rate of c/s due to being induced when your body is just not ready.. I know it is fairly high (not sure on the exact percentages) But if you are strongly against c/s's.. something to think about! Good luck to you both!

Hi from your neighbor to the north in North Port, FL!!

Maybe since you know you are getting induced anyway, you could do some natural at home methods to try to get the party started, so to speak. Drinking red raspberry leaf tea, eating spicy food, having sex (it's not the orgasm, it's the effect of semen on the cervix), nipple stimulation, lots of walking, etc.

And nspear is right about a higher chance of having a C-section, so that's something you need to be aware of as well.

Good luck!

PP is right; if you are not "favorable" the c/sec rates are much highter than the normal "25%--I'm thinking it is close 40-50% chance. I was induced at 36w6days (began induction) due to hx of pre-e and I was 2cm and 80% and my "chances" of c/sec were around 40% due to induction.

12 hours after pit increasing I was 3cm and still around 80%. We stopped pit for the night and by next AM baby was fixed and had bag waters broken and started pit again and baby was here 3 hours later!

I would suggest really walking and working with your body to keep things moving!

Good luck!

Thanks again, girls.

I have been walking walking walking, eating pineapple, drinking raspberry leaf tea and manhandling DH. So, I am hoping that I can get the ball somewhat rolling by Tuesday morning. I am not thrilled with the idea of a c/s, but I just want both of us to be healthy. I was thinking though...3 weeks ago, I went in due to an increase in bp and I was 1 cm and 50% effaced...so either my cervix magically closed itself (can this happen??) or my doctor lied and just didn't want to ruin his holiday weekend. I didn't think about it on Saturday, because I was too annoyed with wasting time at the hospital for no apparent reason.

I was induced with my first. My cervix was highly favorable, I was 4 cm dilated when I walked in. But I never progressed and wound up with a c-section. I have since found out I have a narrow pelvis and it didn't matter that it was an induction, I would have needed a c/s.

My OB did say that there is a much higher chance of a c/s with an induction. So keep that in mind.

I have had 5 inductions. My cervix doesn't 'ripen' on it's own. My first induction took over 36 hours before I delivered. The others were less, ranging from 27 hours to 15 hours. My doctor has me come in the night before to prepare my cervix and once it starts to open they start pitocin. I've heard pitocin makes labor more intense but since I've never had a labor without pitocin, I don't know if that is true. You do have the option of an epidural and I would suggest getting it if you aren't opposed to that kind of thing. I did my first labor without any pain medication and believe me, once was enough!

In the end, you have a wonderful little baby in your arms, and believe it or not, at least for me, you forget all about the pain you were in prior to that!

I was induced at 39 weeks. My labor lasted about 27 hours and honestly wasnt that bad at all. I really didnt mind sitting in the hospital waiting...lol Everyone caters to you and its all about you

I know prolly a lil selfish but for me it was a good experience. I was only 1-2cm when the induction started and the baby was still pretty high, but all turned out good in the end. Hope all goes well for you!!!

If you're not showing signs of Pre-E I would try to avoid the induction. It sounds like your body isn't ready and it's likely you'll end up with a C section due to a failed induction. You'd be suprised at how often this happens because Drs are not acting with their patient's best interest in mind.I hate to say this (and maybe it's not the case with your OB) but a lot of doctors do crap like this because it's convenient for them. They are not concerned with your well being and the fact that you might end up with an unnecessary C section. I'd rethink it but if you decide to go through with it, good luck and I hope you have an easy labor and delivery.

I went in to be induced @ 1-2 cm, and 95% effaced. My cervix was still pretty high. After 17 hrs. of labor, I ended up with a c section. He wouldnt come down..Come to find out his cord was wrappd 3 times around his neck...I think thats why things never progressed for me..Good Luck Kelly, cant wait to hear about it.

I went in on Tues was checked. 90% effaced and 1cm. Went in for induction at the same thing the next day on wed. Thur night I was still the same so I had a c/s. However he said nothing would ever come through my pelvis so that must have been my problem. Good luck
