Default A medication question...

I have a question...is anyone else on here or has anyone else been put on Lexapro or Celexa, it's cousin? I've been taking it for four days now, due to panic attacks. The first two days, I was fine, but now I'm really dizzy. It isn't a drowsy dizzy, just a sort of messed up balance dizzy. Has anyone else had this happen, does anyone have a clue as to what's causing it, and does it go away after a while?

Thanks!

Hi, Kate. I took Celexa for about 2 wks. It did make me a little dizzy at first. I had to quit taking it because it caused me to have really bad stomach pain. The double up help, kinda pain. Then I went to Wellbutrin, made the depression better but did not help panic/anxiety at all. Actually, I took 1 Remeron inbetween. Knocked me out for 12 hrs. dozed for 12 and out another 12. Couldn't wait for it to get better as I was starting a new job. So, last week the Dr. put me on Lexapro. I started out taking only 1/2 for this first week. Went up to a whole tonight. It works, kinda. I don't feel dizzy, it does help me sleep, but spent the day in tears. So, I guess the jury is still out. I'm hoping that by taking a whole one it will be better. Everyone's body reacts differently, though. So, if you continue to have problems after the first week or so, or if it gets worse I would contact the Dr. about trying something else. Lexapro is still so new (Dr. said it had only been out about 1 1/2 weeks) that my Dr. is really curious to see how it goes. He feels it should be a really good alternative to many of the other meds. Good luck. Hope you feel better. Hugs, Lendi

Interesting. You said you have no trouble sleeping, but I'm having some issues getting to sleep. Just goes to show how different the side effects can be from person to person.

My doc told me Lexapro is a "purer" form of Celexa. The impurities that causes the hard side effects in Celexa have been removed, so they're not as pronounced. I didn't realize it had been out so briefly until I went to look it up in WebMD and it wasn't there!

Thanks for the info. Good luck with you...I hope this one works out. Let me know how you're doing!

Keep me posted, too. We'll share stories. I started taking a whole and I sure was tired this afternoon. But, the Dr. said it might happen for awhile since I have been sleep deprived for quite awhile. I do know that 1/2 isn't enough. Dr. wanted me to start out on that since I had such problems with Celexa. I was glad my week was up and I could take a whole because yesterday was one awful day.
BTW, everytime I see you little red headed pix, I smile. I've been meaning to tell you how cute I think it is everytime I post, but forget. Hang in there. Hugs, Lendi
