Question Medroxy Progestrone = Provera?

I have just been put on Medroxy Progestrone due to not having AF since July 16th. I just have some questions like does Medroxy Progesterone mean the same thing as provera? Have you had any expirences with this? I am really nervous that it is going to bring on a heavy AF... But I dont really know what to think!! any info would be helpful. I am on 10mg for 7 days.

Hi there. Yes it is generic for Provera. I've just taken 10mg for 10 days. The only side effects I had were dizziness and nausea, but it seems like there are a lot of comments here from people with bad PMS type symptoms while taking it, cramps, swelling, mood swings etc. I was afraid to take it, too, but I decided to try it once and see how it went. Also the doctor is using it as a test they call the "progesterone challenge" or "Provera challenge" to check for premature ovarian failure. So maybe if my ovaries don't work right, that could be why I'm not getting the bad symptoms...maybe AF isn't coming who knows.

If you're very nervous, you might consider asking your doctor for a natural progesterone like prometrium instead. Many women say they are better with that.

Hi!

It is the same as provera....i tried prometrium and it didn't work at all for me....i did it for 12 days 2 months in a row and NOTHING

this month i did 10mg of provera (medroxy progesterone) and 4 days later had mild spotting and now 2 days of light flow

i did not have any side effects...i have had moderate cramps and feel very bloated...i have also been craving everything in site

hope this helps
