Hi Allison,
Sounds like you're seeking anit-d meds for the first time. I've been on them for a few years now, and I just wanted to give you a bit of a warning based on my personal experience.
Every anti-d will work differently in every person. For example, my mother does very well on Zoloft, my sister does well on Prozac and neither of them worked well for me.
If after a month or so on a particular brand, you don't feel yourself improving, go back and speak with your doctor to see if you need to change meds.
Also, if you have someone in your life you're comfortable confiding your use of anti-d's, ask them to monitor your overall behavior as well.
Zoloft put me in a place where I didn't want to get out of bed, didn't want to brush my teeth, didn't really see a point in going on at all. I thought that I was going insane, and that Zoloft was the only thing keeping me from going over the edge. Turns out, it was the daily Zoloft that kept pushing me towards the edge.
I was weaned off of my 300mg of Zoloft and onto 300mg of Wellbutrin, and my entire world has turned around. I get up at 6:30am and I'm ready to start my day like a 'normal' person.
Just a PSA to let you know that if you get the right anti-d life can get better. Don't let yourself get stuck on one that you're not completely happy with - there are so many different anti-d's and combinations to choose from.
Btw, I've always just gotten mine from my gp or pcp - I basically walked in and told them that I felt the medication would help me, and bolstering that with the fact that most women on my mother's side take them - they were more than happy to comply.
Best of luck to you! |
