Default Which meds clear up skin? Help terribly needed

Hi all,

I was wondering if you could give me some pointers which meds can help me clear up my skin.
- As I'm not IR (I'm a thin cyster) Metformin or Glucophage is not an option I guess
- As I have a tendency towards low blood pressure Spiro or Aldactone is not an option
- As I get sick to my stomach bcp's are not an option (Diane 35 used to work miracles for me, but I can't digest it anymore)

I use finasteride (Proscar), whick has helped a great deal with my hairloss problem, but doesn't do anything for me in the skin department.
I'm getting quite desperate and cried myself to sleep last night because I HATE my skin. It's becoming a bit of an obession lately as every time I see someone on telly or in real life I look at their peachy non PCOS skin and I feel so jalous. This afternoon I was looking at old pictures in which my skin looked great (the Diane 35 days) and I was sobbing over them.

Please help me!

Love,

Charlotte

all i can say is that i know exactly how you are feeling. everyday i hated looking in the mirror, and i refused to go out without makeup. its been a problem since i was 15. so now i am 23 and i finally went to a derm and he prescribed a form of tetracycline cally dioxycycline i believe it is....i will check and w/b again. but ever since then my skin is totally clear and not oily at all. im sooooo happy i cant tell u how happy i am lol. it is amazing!! check it out seriously, it will work. i have pcos also and it has been the only thing that works, its not a harsh chemical and its not like accutane. it is an antibiotic. so good luck and w/b if you want. lots a love Jill

You cannot be in the presence of a profoundly vaccine damaged child and not know that child could be your own. And you cannot try to comfort a mother who has just buried a baby who has died from a vaccine or a disease and not know that you could be the one standing over the grave. When it happens to your child, the risks are 100 percent.

I took tetracycline for about 6 mos.. I loved it, I worked wonders. I only went off of it b/c DH and I started TTC.
A couple of warnings..be careful not to take it close to meal times...it can cause nausea/vomiting and stay out of the sun, it causes sensitivity to sunlight. I went to to a tanning bed while on it (I forgot the warning) and even the palms of my hands got sun burned! Ouch!

Good Luck

Just a thought, what about the birth control patch. I took it but ended up having an allergic reaction to the glue(rare I'm sure) and while on it noticed my skin was greatly imiproved after just 3 months. It has the same hormones as ortho cyclen so pcos friendly. I have IBS and am sensitive to oral bcpills but had no trouble with the patch, no nausea either. You may try it as a help with some of your symptoms.

Chrissy, can u tell me more about this patch? What kinds are there? Which one do u use?
Could I take some kind of patch with the same hormones in it as Yasmin or Diane 35 has?

Thanks in advance!!

Hi Charliegirl. I believe the Ortho Evra patch is the only bc patch on the market currently. It seems to be a preferred combination of meds for PCOS since it contains and very low androgenic form of progestin as well as estrogen. You can look it up on the web and at fpnotebook.com to get more particulars. My dr. said it is very similar in affect to ortho cyclen becuase of its components. Its worth a try, I know it cleared my skin and I experienced no stomach issues with it. Good LUCK!!!

You might want to ask in the acne forum as well.

Hi Charliegirl,

I know you mentioned you can't stomach BCP's, but you may want to try Yasmin. I am also very sensitive to BCP's, but I tried it and it worked WONDERS for my skin.

I always had clear skin, then at 21, my skin started getting bad due to PCOS. About a year later I started the Yasmin as a last resort and it turned out to be just what i needed.

Just something to think about as an option...

Best of luck

Lisa
