My Mood: Points: 12,039.30 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 12,039.30 | I am taking Spiro for acne. I started it a few months ago. I havent had any trouble with it at all. Oddly enough, I take it at night with a small snack and I havent had "pee" issues during the night, like getting up all the time. My skin is so much less oily. I used to be an oil slick 30 minutes after putting on makeup. Well I never even have to blot at all the whole day. Good news is no cysts at all for the months I have been on it. I am only taking 50mg per day. Hope that helps.

My Mood: Points: 1,462.56 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,462.56 | I am just easing into my spiro treatment. I know that flutamide is really key for my skin though. I have no acne and I dont even have blackheads on my nose anymore. I had these since puberty. Finasteride also helped with my skin. But flutamide gave me movie star skin. I am taking spiro for body hair. |

Points: 902.01 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 902.01 | I have been on 50 mg a day for three months along with 1000 mg of met. My acne has really improved. The only thing I can't stand is I still seem to have large pores I can see. For the most part the acne is gone but my skin doesn't look smooth.
On another thread someone mentioned you shouldn't take ibuprofen with spriro. Anyone else heard this? I just went to the endo last Wed and he has never said anything about it and they update my med list everytime I go. They ask about everything and ibuprofen is on the list and they've never said anything about it. |

Yes I have heard that. However, I think what it means is that if you are on ibuprofen therapy and take it daily. If you took it once in a while...it probably would be fine. I take it when I get a bad headache. I havent had any problems with it. You can ask your doctor about it as well. Hope that helps.

My Mood: Points: 5,657.68 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,657.68 | I'm a long-term Spiro user (about ten years now) and it has really worked well for me. My skin is really clear (I get a few little pimples during PMS time) but I have not had any more cystic acne breakouts or anything like that. My pores are even more refined and my skin tone more even. It also has done wonders for scalp hair growth and facial/body hair diminishment (I don't even have to deal with a "monobrow" anymore). No side effects that I am aware of. I take a pretty high dose, 150 mg a day, but I also take Avandamet, which causes me to retain large amounts of fluid and the increased Spironolactone dose keeps that under control.

My doctor gave me topical clyndamcin (sp) for acne since I'm also ttc. That actually helped a lot. The only thing is that if you use it continuesly it really dries out your skin horribly. You should use it regularly at first and then taper off to a couple times a week.
I liked it better then Proactive. It's a lot less hassle and it doesn't bleach your fabrics like proactive does. |
