Hello Ladies!
I have been noticing a few siggys with "memory problems" being a symptom of PCOS... how many of you connect forgetfulness with your PCOS??? And is there any information that you could send me about this, I'm very curious! Thank you!
I'm sure Hubby, who has told me I have the memory of a goldfish, would like to read about the connection!!!
I don't know if my forgetfulness is related to PCOS, but I get extremely forgetful if I don't eat, which I do attribute to PCOS.
Do you have problems with your glucose levels? A lot of women in my family get really shaky and can't talk or remember anything when their sugar is low.
I don't know, I'm not you or your doctor, but that's my experience with PCOS and forgetfulness.
I wouldn't say that it's when I'm feeling sick, and I've been having some low blood sugar episodes lately.
I am forgetful ALL the time... but especially when trying to recall a conversation. My husband makes jokes about it, but I think that it's more than just being ditzy. I'll go upstairs and won't remember why... I'll sit for 20 minutes trying to think of a word I can't bring to memory. Last night I couldn't think of what the volcano's red melted liquid was called while watching a show about them, I had to ask after thinking for so long... lava!!!! I guess it's just me.
I have a horrible memory too. My bf thinks it funny though because his is worse then mine and we always ask eachother to remind us to do something, which is pointless because we both end up forgetting. I've never really thought of it being a symptom of pcos. I just feel like nowadays, we're just so overloaded with information it's hard to keep things straight even for a little bit. I'm sure there's books that can help you try to better your memory but I've never looked into them. Sorry I'm not much help.
I'm sorry but your husbands remark kind of cracked me up because that's totally something that I would say. Anyway, I tried looking some stuff up real quick but I don't have too much time since I'm at work but I haven't been able to find anything linking the two. I'm going to look into it more when I get home.
There was a study that came out last year that attributed IR to memory loss in senior citizens. The study suggested that what we consider normal forgetfullness in senior citizens is probably a result of IR. IR tends to become more prevalent as people age, so the memory loss goes hand in hand, the study claimed.
Therefore, it makes sense that those of us with PCOS caused by IR would also be forgetfull.
Gnzls, I asked if memory problems and PCOS had a connection and if there were any websites or articles to back it up.
Hoping4help, I am taking Met but the forgetfulness has been going on for more than 4 years now... maybe even longer but my husband was the one who pointed it out to me and I met him 4 years ago. If it were longer, I didn't notice it and neither did my family. I did take Lexapro (antidepressant) for about 4 months in 2002, but other than that nothing.
Erin, I guess it could make sense with the IR study on the elderly. I do know that sugar is needed by the brain cells even more so than other cells in your body to function, maybe there's a connection there!
Another example of my memory problems, I couldn't think of how to spell "reason" earlier and had to look it up... this is a common thing for me, not being able to spell words that are otherwise simple.
Banna-I apologize, I didn't see you were taking Met in your sig.
Anyway, I wish I could help you more with this, I just know my memory has been poor ever since starting on antidepressants or anti-anxiety meds. Unfortunately thise meds do have an impact on memory, but you said you only took the Lexapro for about four months, so I doubt highly that would cause this almost three years later, and before.
Have you ever had ECT treatments? Sorry you're having this, I get it as well, not often, but it's like sometimes I say..."it's on the tip of my tongue" lol
hoping4help,
Haven't had ECT treatments. I don't think that my poor memory is a big deal... just was curious if there was a connection. Now it's more of a joke with my husband and I... we laugh about it. There are far worse things about PCOS that I would change before worrying about my forgetfulness! Thank you for trying to help with your insight!
